Winter weather

Around here, we have seen very little in the way of Winter weather.
We normally have our "first snow" either very late in September or
early October. Not often very much, but snow none the less.

Not this year. Up on the mountain (Continental Divide) it has been
snowing for quite a while, but not down here. There have been one
or two that came close, but just barely. Then this week . . . . .

Yesterday evening was the last time we will see above freezing until
Friday. Tomorrow night is guessed to be minus 6 and SNOW!!

That will be a nice set-up for Christmas.
A White Christmas can always make the holidays nice. :D

I prefer "average" weather, but I'm coming to think "average" describes
what ever you have this year. :roll: . :D I still remember the December
of '85 which was the coldest December on record (around here) and the
second coldest month on record. The . . . AVERAGE . . . temperature
was 17.1 degrees F. I'm glad that was then, and it would not hurt my
feelings if it does not revisit for decades. :wink:

We have been having weird weather ourselves. No rain to speak of (save 1 day when hurricane Matthew was off the coast,) from late August until last week. We were almost 18" behind our annual total. Made for the worst fire season we've ever had, period.

I think the odd weather patterns are God's way of saying; "I'm still in control, and there is nothing you can do about it."

First snow last night. Usually comes about Thanksgiving or earlier. Had constant rain until last Sunday, instead of snow. Down to single digits tomorrow night.

Can tell it snowed==passed a Hummer doing 10 mph in the fast lane of the (plowed!) main boulevard in town. Lots of people passing him on the right until he exited (to the right from the fast lane!)

Shorts and T-shirts ever since the summer. Will be close to 90 today. They say a 50-60 degree cold front maybe next week.

That's nothing. Here in central ND, had 19 inches last week, another 5 inches last night, 40 mph winds and in the middle of a blizzard now. I-94 and I-29 closed. It's bad out there!

We got 3/4 inches on Sunday night and it knocked our power out for 18 hrs. Turns out it was a transformer that exploded on my neighbors maypole. Wow,....toothpicks! There were nine,...count them NINE big boom trucks in front of my house last night.

It all melted pretty much now, but, never fear!,....another four to six is coming tomorrow. Ifin you don't like lake-affect snow,... this ain't the place to live.

We got less than an inch here today. Still some left this evening, may hang around for another couple of days before it warms back up again. Little cold snap came through. First of the year. What I like about it here. No shoveling. :mrgreen:

Been dry and more moderate than usual in northern Md this fall. We haven't even had a hard frost yet when we usually get one mid October. We still have some flowers blooming on the deck. Finally started getting some rain this last week.

Cut the lawn just last week. As Coach said, it is really mild (40-50 range). I'll take that over "freeze my buns off" temps. I DID fire up the snowblower . . .just in case.

Got a little snow for the first time yesterday and is already gone. Having a cold snap for a couple days now, into the mid twenties here and there.

Got an inch or so last night. Still a little left on roofs around here. Temps in the twenties last night and already about 29F tonight. It's definitely December now, the ski area is open and there's snow on the passes. Probably be a few days before I can fire up the bike for a ride.

Several inches on the ground here today. Highs in the low 30's, lows in the low 20's. It's supposed to be more of the same for the next 4-5 days. I spent the last two days putting a new heater core in my truck. Bring it on! :mrgreen:

I just got back in from clearing about that amount. Nothing terrible, but
just enough to remind you that the old saying of the older you are, the
stronger you get, is a bunch of hooie. :wink:

Well, the weather guessers missed again. Beautiful sunny day, and cold! Got down around 10 last night, highs around 25 at our place today. Glad I got to work on the truck in a snowstorm yesterday. As we got up today and looked outside, my wife says...And God laughed again. :mrgreen: How true.

Last night on TV (always makes you wonder) they said the total snow in
Steamboat (town and ski run) for the last three days is three feet. More
to come this week, with a "real" snow around the end of this week.

I also saw one on DRUDGE that was whining about six inches of snow
and how horrid it would be in Chicago. DANG!! They'll miss their 700
homicides for the year.
