Winter Storm

Drove to Baltimore today....no issues aside from the Malibu couldn't get traction on the driveway. No biggie just jumped in the Jeep. But it sucks gas like like me with a ice cold beer on a hot day. But I was there. The main roads are great.
It irks me to no end to make it off this "mountain" all the way into Baltimore and dimwits that live 20 minutes away can't make it in because the storm "trappped" them in. Total BS....I know where my team lives and where they live is extremely accessible......I made one feel like dirt when he called saying he couldn't make because the plow only came once....."I will pick you up" was my response in a display of Servant Leadership
.....I found hard packed snow that all the vehicles in his neighborhood made as they went to work....and he drives a 4X4 pick up....LAZY trying to take advantage of something. He knows where I live and how far I commute...I told him maybe a change of seasons thatincludes snow/ice isn't for him....he should go live in a warm cereal state...looking confused he replied "you want me to live in a bowl of oatmeal?"....I said "no, the type with fruits, flakes and nuts....California, specifically the coast". He laughed, but he won't be laughing when I give him his performance review....
That said, I will be on the California coast next week for my Seabee Son's graduation....I won't mind being in the warmer weather while it's 0 degrees here...but I also don't mind coming back

I guess we dodged the bullet here (N/E TN). Most of it rode right over top of us by about 20 miles or so (according to the radar maps I watched). Some nearby areas with just a little more elevation got several inches, but we got just enough that you could still see the dead winter grass on the lawn poking through. When they first predicted this one, they said we'd get 24 inches, then a couple of days later 18, then 12, then 6, then a couple, and we ended up with about an inch or so. But I would like a word with Al Gore. Where's all this Global Warming he promised us? 6 degrees this morning with a -5 wind chill. It's not supposed to get above freezing for like the next week and then just barely.
Glad you dodged the bullet. We also came out better than we could have as the heaviest ice was just a few miles south of us. We kept our power (except for about two hours) and all of the dogs, cats, horses and birds have been well cared for. I did lose an awning covering my old Ford F-350. It collapsed under the weight of ice. Not sure if damage yet or not. Will have to thaw out first.

I told my wife today, I'm gonna build a real structure to keep it in. It's a '97 which is the last year of the old body style. Has the old 7.3 liter diesel in it and has carried me to many adventures..........
Fun fact (for me?) in 1995?, roughly, I was "snowed in" while staying in Johnson City TN......I was staying at the Holiday Inn. Did my thing in Johnson city and finished early. I decided to just take the time to relax and not head to the next bad guy take down which if I recall correctly was Bristol TN and the home to Wytheville VA. It snowed overnight, power was out and roads were closed. I was in that hotel for 5 days. Was supposed to be only 2.....I couldn't believe everything shutdown for maybe 12 inches of snow. I should have just checked out and left when I could instead of relaxing which was rare. Funny thing is we just got issued new fangled laptops which was useless as I couldn't plug it into the phone jack. No cell phone. I was issued a pager back then....get a page find a pay phone or wait until you arrived at your destination to check in.
A few months later I had to return to Johnson City to testify. Stayed at the same Holiday Inn. The case was late afternoon/last on the docket. It was hot. Sky was black. They were predicting severe thunderstorms....I could have stayed the night and relaxed before heading out the next morning to the next grab in Charlotte NC. I checked out and headed straight to Charlotte taking no chances...crazy what triggers memories.
Now they are predicting more snow in the Baltimore area this weekend. Oh goodie. More 'everything' closed or opening late. I am an old fart and honestly don't remember people ceasing to function when it snowed.
I remember some years back my wife and I were staying at a motel on Cape Cod. They predicted snow so we pulled out the shower curtain, draped it across the windshield and the next morning there was maybe 4" of snow. We were heading home to Maryland. Removed the curtain, cleaned the back window, got in the car and left. The roads were snowy but drivable. No problem. We were the only car moving.

We were a different breed FM. I lived in Mn. and the "great" Northeast most of my working life. I never missed a day of work due to bad weather in 44 yrs of service. Hmm, maybe that's one of the reasons I lasted that long at the same company...

The storm this weekend has blizzard potential depending on track. Barometric pressure of 960 millibars comparable to hurricane. Supposed to go East of us in CT or brush the coast Sunday. I hope they're right because I'm running out of places to put it after the 17 inches we got Sunday.

Well, it got down into the 30s here in Florida-duh the last two nights, with a light frost on the Jeep this morning. The Euro model is suggesting a chance of “Gulf effect” snow flurries around Tampa Bay for Saturday night but we’ll be at Disney with the youngest grandkids this weekend… the last time we got snow this far South was a little bit of sleet in 2010.
Pretty nice day today, it might actually be 50 today. Some kind of winter thing coming this weekend maybe, hopefully it'll be to the east of us (sorry to wish that on anybody over there in the east lol)
We got 11" here + some sleet & freezing rain. Touched 29 degrees yesterday and today for about an hour. Helped with places that are salted, no help with the snow mountains, though. (sigh)

I have 3 snowblowers, and what got used was a leaf blower. We got that little snow ....dry snow.
23 inches here. My electric snowblower literally exploded in the first 5 minutes. The discharge chute blew 20 feet into the air and a blade flew across the yard. 2 150 foot long wide driveways plus surrounding sidewalks. I am officially too old for this crap. Luckily I had some Green Chartreuse painkiller for my lower back.
Same here when I lived in the northern states.
I was, however, a couple of hours late one day when my Land Rover slide on the glare ice on our road and ended up on its side. Had to call a friend to come over and help me turn it upright, went back home and replaced the top half of the door (glass was broken out) then went on in to work.
Yep, while in the USAF and SAC in Kansas they didn't shut down the flight line because of cold and snow. We still had broke B-47s to work on. Then after discharge I went back to Ohio and didn't miss any work during the winter.
When I worked in Minneapolis at an engineering consulting firm, one year we got a real deluge of snow. My wife and I commuted together and her oral surgery office was closed because of all the snow. So, I called in and said I couldn't get to work (first time I ever did that). No issues, except the next day when I went in the chief engineer/office director asked me why I didn't come in. Well, I said I lived thirty miles out and didn't think I could get in. He grew up in the city I had moved to Minnesota from and he said something about - you're from South Dakota and you couldn't make it to work because of the weather (with a smile)?

Over the years, here in Wisconsin how many times, I drove into work, only to get sent home. I called in only because I was too sick, not because of bad weather!
