Where are they going?

Now lawers already have ads to sue the makers of Wegovy.

I only take generic meds and like me my doctor feels that after 17+ years they're safer than the new things coming out.

That commercial gets my ire up every time I see it, who in their right mind would own a nice '69 Roadrunner and put their tool bag on the fender risking scratching the fender then change out a hose clamp on an nonexistent radiator hose connection .
If someone working on my auto put a clamp on any part and left a "tongue" sticking out like he did we would have a SERIOUS discussion. The sign of a 'hammer mechanic'.

Did you notice that there is no engine in that Road Runner?

You are correct

I was watching a Wegovy commercial and noticed that a hairdresser, a painter, a guy working on a car, and another gentleman, each quit what they were going and join a large group of people walking to ........where and .....why?
Shhh! BigPharm doesn't want you to ask questions. Just get in line and take their drugs. Have you had your 17th covid injection yet?

For all the complaining about the pharmaceutical manufacturers, how many are here because of the drugs they produce? Not just the maintenance type drugs for things like high blood pressure or other heart disease. But, also those used before, during and after life sustaining emergency medical treatment/ surgery.

I'd bet pretty much every one here has at some point needed that sort of treatment.

Oh, and before you gripe about the cost of medications consider this. It takes millions of dollars to bring a single drug onto the market. And during this time many millions more are invested in drugs that don't pass FDA approval (I won't get into that). All this has to be recovered before they make a profit

But, the government give the drug developers a very short time before other drug companies can begin selling "generics".

But if you all feel that the pharmaceutical industry is so bad, just quit using their Maintenance drugs or tell the doctors you don't want antibiotics next time you get an infection. We've got way too many people on this rock, so you'll be helping reduce overpopulation and pollution.

Where? to wherever the director told them.
Why? So they get paid.

First thing: I'll never understand why a drug maker, making only doctor-prescribed drugs, wants/needs to advertise to the public.

Second thing: why do these drug TV advertisements NEVER show the name of specific malady their drug is intended for? Unless I listen VERY CLOSELY to the first 7 seconds of the advertisement, I am clueless why that drug might be relevant to me. This issue makes even more relevant my first observation.

I can only conclude that the drug companies are making such obscene profits that they need to spend that money on something, and TV advertising might be the most expensive piss-away they can think of.

I am so glad, I was in the service for a few years. I joined the Veterans Hospital so I get my medical service there. No insurance premiums, no figuring out on tax forms the medical costs, cheap prescriptions, recently had a multi-day/night stay at the hospital; My son spent 20 yrs. in the army and my G'Daughter a few years as well. They really appreciate the V.A. We all have saved a lot of money over the years... I strongly recommend the service to those who can handle it. Great life-long benefits.

This is one that bothers me. I can still tell it's a Mustang so not sure why they tried to hide some of the features.
Another country music video shows similar year convertable getting gas at the usual fill point. But get a view of the rear and tail panel is only holding tail lights.
Then I watch another country vid they use a nice red 66 convertible just as it came from the showroom. It rolls up next to a 90's Mustang convertible and a 90ish lifted Ford truck. All emblems showing.

I've been in some aspect of the pharma business for my entire professional career and currently work for a service provider contracted by a"big pharma" company. Jeepnik pretty much nails what I say whenever these types of discussions come up.

Also add to what was stated about that a pharma company needs to recoup the profit before the formulation either becomes generic legally through expiration of the patent or being ripped off by competitors/China (a very credible threat). A formulation's patent isn't effective when it hits the market, it's effective at a certain point before it's fully completed trials for efficacy and safety...which can take *years* before it's approved for market, so the clock is ticking.

It's not like you come up with a new socket wrench patent and can immediately start selling it, giving you several years before Home Depot/Lowes can start selling it's "generic" model. Imagine you patent the wrench, then have to go through a few years of testing to make sure the wrench works like it's supposed to and has absolutely no way of hurting anyone (all documented profusely) and then subject to approval by the Government before you can start marketing and selling it. Factor in that your patent expires in 7-11 years (I can't remember which it is for pharmaceuticals, but it's much shorter than normal patents) from when it was issued, not from the time the Govt approved it for sale...and gosh darn it, the Chinese have already ripped it off and it's on the shelf at Harbor Freight. Good luck making your profit now...

The sites for which I'm responsible are R&D sites where the think tanks are full of scientists doing hundreds of experiments on formulations. They get paid for their work and experience...and then there are teams and teams of support staff (including me) that are part of the process to bring a drug to market.

I always have to laugh about the fact that most of the folks that complain about "Big Pharma" are the ones that would be dead if we lived in earlier times when the life expectancy was maybe 50 years. I chalk a lot of it up to ignorance (not the obnoxious usage of the term, but lack of knowledge) of what it actually takes to produce a drug product.

I equate this to when My wife and I had a successful food business. We were busy and successful and customers thought we made money hand over fist and were rich because we own a business. We knew that wasn't true because of overhead and reinvestment cut the profits down so much to where it couldn't support both of us and I had to work outside the business. They only saw the money coming in, but never what was going out. But they would scream to high heavens if we raised the price of a hoagie (sub, grinder, hero, sandwich, depending on your regional area) by $0.25 or $0.50.

Aqualung

As Aqualung pointed out patents are a complicated mess with pharmaceuticals. Add to that there is also a thing called "exclusivity". This is again supposed to keep competitors from reverse engineering your new drug and manufacturing it. But, there are exceptions that allow generic forms of a drug to be manufactured it ensure greater availability to the public. I'm not a lawyer, and this is really all in the lawyer spectrum. Whether it needs to be this complicated or not once lawyers get involved it becomes a cluster.

In our 60's my wife and I are not on any pharmaceuticals. We see naturopaths instead of a GPs. Take a look at what BigPharma and .gov did concerning ivermectin during the covid fiasco. No money to be made with ivermectin but lives could have been save.

For heart disease there is beef heart or bison heart. For HBP there are many safe things you can take. Of course diet, no grains or fried foods, and exercise will solve so many issues.

Emergency/surgery is not the same as taking an expensive pill that treats symptoms and has side-effects worse than the condition being treated.

FYI my wife worked in Pharma Research for 23 years before they fired her for refusing the shot.

IMHO, I believe that they are all walking to the local Carvel store where, if it's Wednesday, it's: Buy One Get One Free...

I'm blessed because we have a Carvel only a 1/4 mile away from Burger King.

It is said that for every disease there is a plant on this planet that will heal it.

"Let thy food be thy medicine!"

it's all about better living through chemicals and if you actually think about it the 'war on drugs' this has to be one of the stupidest things we ever came up with. I finally looked at it from the 'cartel's' view. They would not be smuggling all these illegal drugs in if WE were not buying them!

It kind of goes to my main point... why are there even commercials advertising these prescription drugs? My doctor is the one supposedly educated and with the knowledge of what I should be taking not me... I don't have a clue. And just because some actor on TV who fits my profile is supposedly living a better life because they are taking a certain medication I should do the same? I think the aliens watching us are getting the best entertainment in the universe.

Carvel! That brings back memories....when young lived on Long Island for a couple years.....that was a huge treat for us kids when we went to Carvel for soft ice cream cones. First I ever remember having soft ice cream. We would get ice cream cakes and clown cones from there also. Haven't seen a Carvel since 1972. I think they are mostly a New York thing.

What is Carvel? Is it a yankee thing? I heard reference once in a Beastie Boys song from the early '80's. They were from Brooklyn.

Guess I can google it.
