heat index. I say...HEAT INDEX!!!!

We never used to hear anything about the heat index.

Factually, the "heat index" was first conceptualized in 1979 and didn't begin to be broadcast until the early 1980s...during precisely the same time frame as Al Gore began warning us about global warming. Pure coincidence, I'm sure.

My belief is that the heat index was invented to make us feel like it was hotter than it really was - just another way to reinforce the global warming scam.

Just remember, bigger is worse (or better, depending on what you want it to be).

I mean, which "feels" hotter to you? 95? or 110?

I've always likened the "heat index" to the winter "chill factor". . . . . .

101 degrees now. Heat index around 112. Had things to do outside. Afterward I jumped in the pool and did the "aaahhh" thing. The scary part was that I could feel the heat coming off of my skin UNDER WATER. Pretty sure I cooled off just in time.

They said it was only going to get up to 95 today, after 97 Tuesday and Wednesday. I had to walk barefoot quickly on the street Tuesday, so I figured it wouldn't be quite as bad today. I figured wrong. I was moving fast. First time I ever burned my feet. I got out my Chinese infrared temperature thingy I bought for tire temps, and it's 125 on the sidewalk, 135 on the concrete street, and 145 on the blacktop patches.

My father in law is going to be 95 tomorrow and is very independent. He is with it mentally and still drives short distances to the store. One of my wife's brothers lives with him and my wife goes up at least a couple of times a week to see him and do some things for him.
She went up today and he is feeling sick. She is a retired ICU RN so immediately took action. She dialed 911 after checking his vitals and they took him to the hospital.
He is dehydrated and has heat stroke...

He is a proud old man and one of the finest people I am blessed to know. I couldn't ask for a better father in law and I hope he is OK.

for the next week. 74 today, 79 tomorrow, then 99 on Sunday and mid to high 90s all week. Quite a change for us, it has been cool for the last two weeks.

Yup, Wife & I took a swim in Candlewood lake in New Milford, Ct. yesterday and going today too. We're still in a drought and the critters watering holes are dry. Yesterday there was a Red Fox standing on his hind legs drinking out of our bird bath.

Most of the time I figure I've been moving right along if I've sweat through my shirt by 9AM. I'm REALLY moving these days cause I've sweat through my shirt just eating breakfast.

I'm just happy that I'm not cleaning the fireside of a boiler that fires #6 fuel oil on a hot day or any day now for that matter.
As you sweat and the soot is on your skin it turns to acid and grinds into your pores. You are black for a month afterwards. Then you get to do it again and never quite get it out of your hide.

we have 5 that we try to keep full for the birds & bee's, and critter's . . . . . just trying to keep Mother Nature happy as possible, then hopefully she won't drop a tree on the roof - shhhhhhh

My Daughters and Grandson are up from TN.....Oldest convinced me to take top/panels/door off the Jeep and hit the trails. Even with the wind it was toasty. Saw some nice Timber Rattlers enjoying the sun on the trails and rocks. Got home and prepared the smoker/lower deck for tomorrows crab feast.....When I came back in the house I was drained....but it made for some nice family deck time the last couple nights under the light of tiki torches. Love this weather.

I was busy all day yesterday. Shirt was soaked before 9AM and still soaked when taken off at 9PM. No AC, no fan, some time inside a closed building, and I'll admit I was a bit 'wilted' by end of day.

My car a/c was having a hard time keeping up with the heat so I stopped by the auto parts store and picked up a can of refrigerant. Do it yourself for $15 instead of $150 and the wait at the shop. The gauge and hose were bought years ago for $20 or 30. All done in about 15 minutes.

My car needs its A/C hoses replaced, and I can't afford it right now. So driving, especially in the afternoons and early evenings, is a rather miserable experience. Oh well, chin up and windows down . . .

Went over to Mom's house at eight AM yesterday to mow her yard and do the weed eating. Was done by 10:30 and was still soaked through. The older I get, the less tolerance I have for the heat. Sigh.

I busted my crippled six to get the lower and upper deck ready for todays crab feast. The Wife of this dwelling has just informed me that it will now be inside because it will be over 100 degrees . Not picking up bushels until 300pm. The sun never hits that part of the lower deck anyways.......well guess a few of us will have our own pile of crabs and bucket of ice cold beer. All because one couple (the Husband is a skinny little Sally Boy) said they couldn't make it if it was outdoors due to the heat. People really need to learn how to adapt and overcome things.

...but then my Wife's first question if ever considering on camping is "where is the closest town where I can take showers"
