I recently purchased a Browning X Bolt in .270 win.
The scope I plan to mount on it is a Nikon 40 mm with 1 inch tube.
Can any body tell me what ring height do I need.
My concern is the long action and handle not clearing the scope.
I am guessing that medium rings will work with the 60 degree bolt on this rifle?

With all of the knowledge here I figure somebody can answer this question.

I'd guess (and that's all it is) that medium height rings might work -- depending on the brand, of course. A Weaver medium may not be the same height as a Leupold medium. But keep in mind that along with bolt handle clearance you need to make sure the objective bell clears the barrel completely, and that too high or too low may make getting a comfortable, consistent cheek weld and full field of view problematic. And don't overlook the importance of the base. Depending on the exact action length and shape of the scope, two-piece bases may not let you set the scope far enough forward or back for proper eye relief.
