What optic sits stop your Ruger Rifle.

A pre Hawkeye 77 SS Compact 243 with a grey laminite stock with a silver Sightron 3x9 mounted.
Found it at a pawn shop including a nice camo sling and a case.
It is my go to gun when we quite often take rides where it's possible to see a wolf.
With handloads it will shoot a 100 grain bullet just shy of 3000 FPS
A three foot rifle is a handy size in a pickup..

I know I'm going to hear about it, but no optic (scope) on my Ruger American. That one has an Armed Forces Module Laser. Though I have always preferred iron sights, after Long Covid I discovered and eye dominance change. This actually improved my handgun shooting ( I am a lefty handgun shooter) but caused problems for longun shooting, which I do right handed. On some I have no problem, but the Ruger ( maybe balance?) gave me reason to go for a laser. Since it is used for self-defense rather than hunting, no misses are allowed.

The Leupold 1.5X5 is my favorite scope. I have one on my Ruger RSI.

Suggestions for an optic on a brand new Hawkeye Alaskan in 375 Ruger? Probably will be used for close to medium range hunting, including bear. I’m thinking I’ll need an illuminated reticle and enough eye relief to keep my eyebrow intact. Really hoping to keep it in the $500 range. Thoughts?

Having been a shooter for over like 60 years, I have a fairly large inventory of scopes that I have accumulated, and whenever I buy a rifle it will simply receive one of those scopes. Right now my Ruger American Rimfire in .22 magnum wears a Leupold Vari-X III, 4.5-14 X 40 AO fine reticle, and I love that combo. That one is probably the favorite scope that I own, and I bought it used but in like new condition.

Ok first off, don't get mad at me. On my carry Ruger 44 carbine I knocked out the rear sight and installed a pearsons universal rail. I put a holosun 510c-gr.

Burris Fastfire 3 on my deerstalker

My 44 carbine is heading in that direction. I was using a barrel mount peep sight from Skinner, and it's worked decently, but I put a Holosun on a 10/22 this spring and boy howdy. I think my peep sight days are over. I'll knock out the existing Skinner to put in their dovetail rail mount. Probably another Holosun 407c-gr.

I simply don't/can't understand the fascination/fixation'/affliction of the high magnification scopes many seem to require/want.
Honestly, it doesn't REQUIRE 12-20X to wring out all available accuracy from an OEM 10-22. A hunter doesn't need to count eyelashes on a deer to make a good shot. When shooting a coyote, one doesn't need to access the quality of the pelt before sending the bullet. :censored:

Your location would explain why it doesn't make sense....

Granted, none of my 10/22's wear anything more than a 4x but hunting in the west often requires longer shots. Longer shots do not require stronger optics, but it sure as hell helps with shot placement. I would say that less than half of the animals I have killed were within 200 yards, most around 300, a few past 400.

Stronger optics (with the right gun) gives you more capability is all.

For many years Snipers used a 10X fixed optic to record shots up to 1200 meters with the 7.62 x 51. Nowadays 60 times magnification scopes are run on the F Class 1K KD Range. Honestly, mirage at over ten times magnification makes those higher magnification scopes unsuitable for me while hunting. YMMV.
