The person that said "not anymore" to them being scarce is not from central Ohio obviously. I called 11 different dealers yesterday, including a couple of big box with Gander Mt and Cabelas, and NONE of them had one...new or used. A few told me if I would come in a make a down payment they thought I could have one in 4-5 weeks.
I was about to do that when I made one last call to my actual LGS that I know has not had one in a few weeks. When I finally got through to firearms
(they are usually so busy they don't answer the phone) I asked "I know you don't have one, but do you have any idea when you might get a Ruger 1911 in?" I was SHOCKED to hear him say "We got one in about an hour ago." When I told him this would be the third gun I would have bought from him in the last 4 months he told me I could have it IF I could come in before they closed.
I didn't even ask him how much as I knew it would be, like everyone else I talked to, about $800. I got there in less than 20 minutes. They had a price tag of $749 on it. I told him to box it up. After doing the background check
paper work he came back and said the manager was going to let me have it for $729. I guess they appreciate customer loyalty.
To top it off they had received a nice shipment of .45ACP so I got my 3 boxes
(up from the 2 box limit of the past few weeks) and left a very happy man.
It's interesting for me to see how the responses to this thread have certainly gone up over the 16 months since it started. I know that Ruger has also raised the MSRP $30 in the past few months.
I was very pleased to get the gun at $100 below that figure.
