Pretty sure everyone prefers armed human security instead of the Finger of God, or lightning bolts from beyond.

Okay, I don't get it and I admit I am no lawyer. I would consider a church private property owned by it's members.... why in the heck would they need licensed security in the first place and why does Texas need a law to allow them to not have to do this. Did somebody miss reading the first amendment?

I'm no lawyer either. That's why I can get this stuff right! ;) I'm not restrained by the State Bar Associations!

The 1st Amendment does not restrain the State of Texas. It restrains the US Congress from passing laws abridging the freedom of speech, etc etc. ;) "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The Texas State Constitution defines the religious liberties in Texas.

We have a similar law in MS. Essentially, it provides greater legal authority and protection/immunity from criminal & civil liability than would otherwise be afforded to someone that is not a member of the security team. Beyond that, it also serves as a public and official warning to those who would attack.

I think a lot of what we hear about being protected or immune from criminal and civil liability is just lawyer hype. Example... every small business owner has been brain washed into believing that if they incorporate then they can't be sued... this is BS.... the only limitation is a person who feels they have been wronged has to sue the corporation 1st, then if they win they can sue the owners and active board of the corporation... guess who that is? And guess who gets paid twice? The lawyers. Maybe I'm just too old and from a very old school... seems to me the best way to reduce criminal liability is to don't commit a crime. Best way to reduce civil liability... do what is right.
