Social Security checks

I doubt this applies to anyone here but by the end of the year Social Security will no longer be available to be sent out in a check. They want them all as direct deposit.
If you know someone who is still getting a check let them know before they look for the check in the mail box and it’s not there. Folks in that category are likely going paycheck to paycheck and would be in trouble trying to figure it out, and waiting for the fix.

It's my understanding that these mandatory changes started last September - 2025 . . . . .

Direct Deposit: The money is sent directly to your existing checking or savings account.
Direct Express® Card: If you do not have a bank account, you can use this prepaid debit card. Your monthly benefits are automatically loaded onto the card, which can be used to make purchases, pay bills, or withdraw cash.

Not positive when it started but those are the two options.

When I went on SS 5 years ago, direct deposit was the only option. And super easy too.

Why risk having a check stolen? Direct deposit could not be easier.

My bank was bought out, and they changed out accounts and routing numbers. It was a breeze changing that info on the website. Shockingly easy.

Ours are on Direct Deposit. No issues, and I don’t have to drive to the bank twice a month to deposit checks.

Now here's a thought. Once upon a time all societies were cashless. We've now had a few thousand years of using money. Are things better or worse. Maybe we need to go back to a barter system where you actually have to produce something to trade for what you need. Nah, then the farmer would be king and the computer nerd would starve.

I fought direct deposit for 10-15 years at work. I don't know when it started as it was voluntary, but that was before I started resisting. Then it became suggested. followed a couple years later by requested. Then highly pressured (with all the right positive wording...) Then came the veiled threats hidden behind, Only a mere x% get paychecks statement, Why don't you? Until the day came You will comply.

I had no choice with SS when I signed up.

Apples to oranges. "Once upon a time" they didn't have powerful bankers controlling transactions and knowing where everyone is and what they're doing.. Individuals bartered.

Speaking of controls of transactions, but there are way too many restrictions and regulations, they can already use against us because we have no idea what they are, and they can use them without out us even doing anything wrong, but we violate some logarithm!!!

While we don't usually agree, on this we do. My point was it would be a better world if we got rid of banker and lawyers. Cash is actually okay. It's credit that causes most of the issues. It took me a few years to figure out that credit is just legalized theft.

I recently got some junk mail from my bank telling me I could roll all my debt (I don't have any) into one account. Very low percent interest. Until you read the fine print and find out that then new account would have an interest rate of double what the going rate, after the introductory period.

The only issue I've ever had with direct deposit was last year when someone tried to hack my wife's checking account. Since all of our accounts are linked the bank froze all of them and gave us new ones. Since I do 99.9% of my banking electronically it was a real pain to change all of our diect deposits and payments. To get access to our old accounts I had to have the bank manager make the transfers until the all payments went into the new accounts. It took the SSA three payments to make the change while everything else was done within one payment.

Since first starting Social Security over 10 years ago, I have never received a check. It has never been an option for me.

My thoughts come from a different direction, a beat cops mind/memory.
Having SS/ welfare checks going into accounts and not having mailed checks needing cashed. Has saved many seniors from being robbed at or near the banks on pay day.

ahhh, the perils of good old city living..... I still cash 5 - 6 checks in person the first of each month, that's good old fashion country living still . . . . .
