Hey Guys...Shizam...I didn't even know this when I bought it.

Am I reading this thread right, that the 50th Anniversary 4-5/8th .357's started at 16000?

I picked up 16009 NIB today. I think I feel better about the $450 price tag.

I purchased 44 Special #520-17256 with a fired ctg. date of birth, 2/6/09.
The barrel is a 5.5 incher.

It was purchased at a gun show in Dalton Ohio, sold by a fellow who
is a liscensed dealer. This guy sets up at all of the local area gun shows and he sells a lot of Ruger guns. He only had this one for sale.

I have one on order through a local dealer that was price quoted
at $10 cheaper but I figured a gun in the hand is a sure thing.
I'm not sure if I will keep the other gun on order or not.

Doc.

Don't blame ya Doc. The old byrd in the hand. Sounds like ya got a good enough deal being within a ten spot of your dealer quoted price...

Oh, my, you've not caught on to what's going on here. The topic at hand is figuring out when the .44 Specials started, which share the same s/n series as the 50th Anniv. .357 Blackhawks.

The 50th Anniv. .357's began at 520-00001, I do believe.

Splitz,

No, sir, I've not even considered looking. I have s/n 100 of this series, it's just happens to be a .357 mag and not a .44 Special....

Understand, however, this is a relatively short lived series/run and think it interesting enough to add if one came across "our" number. Admit this is partially the idea of an idling retired mind...........Like other semi-fiascos, I offer that this run should have had it's own SN assignment, just like the Annie Single six, 45-70 #1 Annie, and some others that irked me.JM nonHumble O, as usual, now understanding why my Dad acted the way he did at this age............ 8) :?

My 50TH .357 is a 3digit Ser number 520-00601
My .44 Spl is 520-17482
The gap between the last posts on se no's in the .44 series tells me they may build more than the original 2000. Mine should be a 2nd quarter run, but I got it on March 5.

Yea, maybe. They are a hot seller right now. 520-17482 would indicate that at least 600 Specials have at least had their frames serial numbered, but who knows when the rest of those will go through the final "process".
The earliest Special now stands at 520-16831, a 4-5/8".
I suppose somebody at the factory could have cherry picked the consecutive "pair" we're all looking for.

I just picked up a 4 5/8" at a very small gun show today. I was surprised to see it. The dealer said he never even ordered it. Lipsey's just called him one day and asked if he wanted one! Sure glad he said yes. The serial number is 520-1684X.
