What is the story on the two? Did Bill Ruger have them made for someone or any reason that you know of? What was the production date?

According to the info I'm aware of,, and the RENE,, there were (2) of them, as "Pre-production" variations. Serial numbers 5000 & 5001. Serial # 5000 was the one cut down to 10" later.
