Ugh, it’s Prom Weekend here in Dallas. I’m kinda glad our daughter is between boyfriends at the moment. They just go as a big group anyway. She’s Gen Z, they do things differently. So even if one of them has a boyfriend they still all go as a group. There are 10 kids in her group.

So the first dress she bought didn’t fit just right. Enter dress number two. I mention she can wear it next year at Senior Prom. She laughed at my “joke.”

I guess the pistol I shot at the range last month is out dated??? I better fix that.

My wife just drove her to her friends house for a pre-party (no alcohol) then the dance, then the after prom party is back at our house. No alcohol at all. Plus since they aren’t 18, they can’t drive after midnight. I don’t know how they plan all this driving back and forth.

I never went to prom at my high school. Only when I was teaching in Bulgaria. They do prom pretty much the same. It was at a hotel in town. They had dinner and dancing. But the teachers got to drink wine!

The first year I went with all the teachers. The second year I took my wife.

Anyone have any good prom stories?

Yep, it's different.

Men will say, "I like that suit, I'll wear it every day." Women have to have a different dress for every function, especially fancy functions.

I've known women who'll get five or six different dresses made just for the Christmas season. Wear it once and donate it.

My future wife with her high school boyfriend at their senior prom in ‘63.
In 1968 he was shot down while piloting his helicopter in Vietnam. - surviving, but severely burned, required 2 years in hospital recovering.
He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel 20 years later.
Good officer & a gentleman.

Me that same year with my girlfriend at a college dance (plenty of alcohol there). She wound up marrying a psychiatrist.

My fondest memories of Prom are never attending it. 🤘😌
I sort of wish they didn’t have such things. I know the kids like it, but I can see lots of pressure to look a certain way, and be seen with so and so. Or NOT seen with other people.

Then some of the kids are too shy to go. And they probably feel worse because they aren’t there.

It’s just a lot. Ya know?

Well, I'll admit to having been to (7) different Proms.
When I was in HS,, my girlfriends went to different schools. There was (4) right there.
Then,, my future (1st) wife,, I had her (2).
Lastly,, another girlfriend,, her brother & his g/f were to have their proms on the same night,, but at different schools. So,, they asked us,, if we'd be their "dates" at their respective proms. We all went to dinner together,, went to each prom, and met back at my place afterwards where we "swapped" dates.

We all enjoyed dancing & we all had good times.

The concept of a Prom was to introduce the young folks to a formal affair & allow them to have such an experience with their peers.

Sadly,,, like so many things,, it's all changed.

The girl that I dated throughout most of high school, didn't care to participate in most school activities, so we just went out on our own and had a really good time doing so. 👊😉

It was a 1980 Firebird.
He mowed a lot of lawns for several years to save the $$$ to buy it himself. It was a basic version with a V6 and auto transmission, so we knew he wasn’t going to be hotrodding it.
His older brother drove this ‘78 GMC Stepside his junior year.
(His friends “decorated” it for him more than once.

I took the Prom Queen, her horizons have greatly expanded since then. Glad I got the chance to escape to Southeast Asia. But I did have the luxury of a dance hall on campus that held Sock Hops every Friday during the school year. 👍

Didn't attend mine.

Went with a girl in senior year friend (friend only) later found out she was dating this biker guy and he would nt go and she wanted to. The next year my buddy was dating a senior in HS. She wanted to go but did want her friend to stay at home. So he got me to take her. I was saving for some mahogany like inlays for the car's interior but put that money into a tux. She didn't like me from the get-go. He had a Reat great time, I had her. Proms were not good for me.

About those folks to cool to attend at least one prom, LOOSER's. You only live once, how much do you need miss out on in life? Do you want to pass on your primitive existence to your offsprings? Don't pass on your failures to future generations. JMHO YMMV..

Edit for clarity. Just so we are completely clear, you only have one chance to attend your Senior Prom! Miss it and the only person that misses out during their lifetime is you. Good choice? MEH!

I remember the proms. I remember the SR prom for the "most part". I remember the pics at each others houses with beaming but cautious parents. I remember the dance and over priced Chicken Cordon Blue served for dinner. I remember the flasks being passed around under the tables. I remember getting to the first after prom party......if you were on the football/lacrosse team you started at the same party but ended up at various places.....My date had a hard curfew so had to leave that one and get her home which I did...I recall getting to another party and changing out of the tux and playing quarters......I woke up in the back of a Chevy truck bed with a empty keg and a Yamaha YZ250...... in the middle of a corn field....apparently we all decided to go wheeling....that was a rough morning/day......a few weeks later we went to Ocean City Maryland for Senior Week.....and that was a 5 day blur as well....;) There were polaroid pics of prom and Sr Week that I saw a couple years later when I came home on leave once...but I'd already been to the PI and Thailand and those pics didn't seem that crazy after that.

Just imagine all those folks that passed on attending their Senior prom, guess that's one they can't add to their bucket list since they already skipped a once in a lifetime opportunity? Yet I fondly remember waking up at Indiana Dunes, even if we both had full body sunburn! 😳

Don't remember my junior year, but my senior prom I took a junior. A 105# redhead with ice blue eyes & a cute as hell smile. Even though she didn't have her drivers license yet, her dad had bought her a 67 Formula 400 Firebird with a 4 speed that I had pretty much at my disposal, We took it to the prom. Good times. After 50 some odd years I still have a fondness for her.

The ones we let get away? Yup she sat in the Rolls while her driver took her to school. Her Daddy owned all the Top Line Jewelry Stores in the Tristate area. All she wanted was the Jock that lettered in Wrestling,Cross Country, Football, Baseball, Golf, Tennis, Track and Field events that took State of Illinois Championships. But when Mom & Dad returned from overseas, the BOY from the wrong side of the tracks wasn't the one for her? Much to her regret. 🤧

I didn't go to my prom because I hadn't lived in the area too long. But when my girlfriend wanted to go the hers a couple years later I really didn't want to go, so I broke up with her. :(
