Anyone remember George C. Nonte jr?

He was the author of many firearm books.
He had one tip that stuck in my mind.
He wrote if YOU HAD to. You could reuse
primers. What the heck.
Take a spent primer, remove from shell, remove anvil, flatten cup, carefully scrape
a strike anywhere match head into cup, replace anvil, seat primer back into shell.
I hope I am NEVER that hard up. But if I had to

I have his pistolsmithing book.

A few years ago when primers were unobtanium and what you cold find highly overpriced a local guy was sharing how to reload primers. It was pretty interesting.

He wrote the book, " Modern Handloading". It was my first primer into reloading. I still have it on my shelf.

I recall one of his first pistolsmithing books, the cover was of a Colt Python and it was a reversed ( misprint) the cylinder latch was pictured on the right side of the gun, opposite of the book cover pictured above...yes lots of good information to be had, sorry I sold most of my books the past few months emptied two large book cases

I made a few primers to try using black powder. It worked....barely. Ignition was very mild and full burn of the powder was sporadic but id did work

I recall an article in Handloader magazine way back when Dave Wolfe still published it; something to the effect of Mary Pickford powder. It was about using anything they could find to reload and keep shooting / hunting. Primers remanufactured using kitchen matches, and taking old celluloid movie film, cutting it in sections and putting them in a vice then taking a rasp to it so they could use it as a crude smokeless powder.
