Remember Prom ???

I was standing tall on the yellow footprints of Parris Island, 5/68, a week before "prom". In 1969 I was invited to the big party in Vietnam. Now that was a prom!! I've never understood the obsession with high school. There has been a lot of faces and places that have had a much greater impact on me than high school.

I was working full time after school and it was hard enough keeping a roof over my head and my belly somewhat full. Attending the prom was something reserved for those kids who didn’t come from broken families. I envied those who had the means and parental support.
Both of my children did it in style which made my wife and me proud.

Didn't go to my Prom but the year after I graduated, I took the girl I was dating to her Senior Prom. Went out to dinner first, then the prom then a party at her parents home. I paid for everything, my tux her dress, dinner and party.

You keep getting more and more amazing with every post. With all of your awesomeness you must be as radiant as the sun.
Well, my father called me sun. 😂 Guess he thought I was pretty bright!

Only football players and cheerleaders went to prom. The rest of us had much more illicit fun.

I ran at Brotherhood that evening. Note, racers got all the hot crazy chicks. I swear the smell or burnt rubber was an aphrodisiac for them.

I went to more than a few proms, most well after graduation. They were with girls I was dating at the time. Omly two really stand out. One was with a girl I'd been dating for several years and both our families thought that sure as hell we'd be getting hitched. Didn't happen. Anyway. we doubled up with another couple and went to this really posh eatery. Service was great, the food fantastic and and when it was time to pay up we were toldit was on the house. My date later told me that her dad had set it of for us and paid the bill.
The other I rmeber was the last one I went to. I had to talk my CO into a few days leave so I could take my then girl friend to her prom. I did it wearing my uniform. We ate at a little Italian place I like. Kind of like you saw in the Godfather. They had booths where you could close the curtains and eat in privacy or go downstairs where it was an open room with tables. Nice thing was the food was always excellent and prices reasonable. I think the year of that last prom was late 1962 or early 1963. They all were fun so no regrets.

Great thread with some cool stories. I guess everyone has a Prom story.

Lots of people talk about going out to eat before or after.

These days my daughter is telling me when she goes out to a sit down restaurant with her friends the service is downright awful.

I think this is because waiters and waitresses know high school kids don’t tip very well. That and they are probably loud and noisy and messy.

But it’s too bad restaurants don’t treat high school kids with more respect. It really bothers my daughter when they go. Her friends are not loud and messy. It’s the nerdy girl group of friends. But the wait staff doesn’t know this.
