That's disappointing

To me, this is disappointing.

Bought a new watch because the battery on my old one went out (and the
bezel was really scratched). I've been using the Casio Wave-ceptor for
(I'll guess) fifteen years. I LOVE the fact that it resets itself at least once
per day, so you have the time to within a very few seconds (carry over
from my first wife - who will be late to her own funeral). This will be my
third one (first one got so scratched it was hard to read, and this last one
the battery went dead). Usually, all you do is to set the time zone you live
in, and everything else is done (AZ you have to turn off DST).

It has time zones for the entire world, so if you travel, you just change to
the then local zone.

Inexpensive at $30, so if you find it has "gone off location" (as they say in
the warehouse business), it's not that big a deal.

Only problem is that the one I got from Amazon would not let you turn on
the auto update. Sigh. Just did the process to return the one that came
today, and to get a replacement. THANK YOU Amazon, for such a simple
process. Now if I can just get one that has all functions enabled . . . . .

Love my Casio G-shock (model GW-M5600, NOT one of those oversized G-shock bricks) for the same reasons, it automatically syncs itself to the Atomic Clock every night so I know it's exactly right all the time...even charges itself when outside in the sun...displays the month/date and day of the week alongside the time, so I don't need to keep dragging out the cellphone to check while working and doing paperwork. Quickly set it up years ago when I first took it out of the box and haven't had to mess with it since, I wish the rest of life could be that easy and reliable...

Casio G-shock here also, set it up and nothing else to worry about, if it stops working replace for a relatively cheap price! My husband is more of a watch type person and his is a Armourlite Isobrite which is very nice and VERY bright when it gets dark with the tritium.

Wendy, I am also partial to the Casio G-shock. I also seem to recall that Jethro Gibbs wears a G-shock.

G-Shock fan here, too. Just try to get a broken watchband replaced here locally, though!

Not that I'm a Navy SEAL wannabe, or anything, but once when working with them, I asked 'Okay, what is the REAL Navy SEAL watch?' This, after seeing many companies advertise 'official watch of the Navy SEALs.' I was told that most of them wear whatever the ship's store or PX sells - frequently G-Shocks, because they work. I was further told that a manufacturer will 'gift,' or send a bunch of a product to a SEAL team for test and evaluation, and it then becomes the 'official' whatever of the Navy SEALs!

I have two watches. I have one, a Timex, I wear at night as it has a light. I wear a Seiko during the day. Both keep excellent time and are within 5 seonds of each other.

Time keeping on a Navy SEAL mission can be of critical importance. Back in the Vietnam days the SEALS ran into a serious problem with their night glow watches. The light was giving away their positions. This caused some fatalities. They brought this problem to the China Lake Naval Weapons Center. We quickly developed a watch cover which used pin holes to collimate the light into a narrow beam. I have no idea if it still used.

Watch? Watch what? You mean those old fashioned things that strapped to your wrist and showed the local time? I haven't worn one since I retired in 1992. I have one of those new fangled things that show time constantly updated, does GPS and everything my laptop can do. It's called an iPhone.

I got a G-shock as a hand me down from my brother when he bought a new one. Best watch I've ever owned. Mine is solar powered, and with as much time as I spend outside it will never go dead, and if I decide to go live in a cave, the reserve battery is rated to somewhere around 33 years... Oh and it's water resistant to 600 ft. If I'm ever that deep in water the last thing I'll be worrying about is my watch.

Received the replacement, and guess what . . . same problem.

Well, I noticed it changing the display so I checked and it had a count-down
timer running (will not do auto reset that way). Turned it off and checked
to see if any others were running. Nope. Set the local time zone and
checked to see the last update . . . six months ago.

Tried a "manual update" and it failed. Skad-gu-raj-ja-fradgie!
Rechecked the settings again, tried the manual reset again.
BINGO! I have a new (well, somewhat new battery) watch. AND IT RUNS!

Only thing now is how long will the battery run.
Ain't tech-no-log-i-cally great? {/sarcasm}

I think next time I'll go to Wally World. They usually keep ONE in stock,
so at least the battery should be fresh ( :roll: ).

I bought a cheap Casio, about $12, about 20 years ago. Other than changing batteries every couple of years, it keeps as good time as any other “real” watch I own. It has a stop watch, alarm, timer that aren’t the easiest to use but work.

Work watch is a G-shock. I have a few nice ones that sadly sit more than get worn. I just don't dress up often enough.

I like the looks of some of the G-Shock, but most are in the "sticker shock"
price range. Some well past $300. . . . Not on my wrist. :roll:



I'm coming to think that Amazon is not a good place to get a watch.

I wear a traditional pocket watch but it's modern enough to run on a battery. Wrist watches never work for me because I break them wrenching on things.
