Scheels sporting goods....GUNS!

While vacationing in Fargo ND I had some time on my hands so went to the local Scheels sporting goods store. WOW..... is all I can say about the number and variety of guns they have. Where I live in Washington state we don't have one of these stores. It puts Cabelas, etc to shame. The prices were premium, but if you can't find it there it doesn't exist.....Alright maybe an exaggeration, but still impressive.... :shock:

Go there frequently, and as of late the used quality guns have been few but they are good folks to deal with. The CEO is a great guy. And a fee of the older gun guys are great. I have my Visa card through them so I buy a few guns here and there with reward cards. I've gotten some great deals on used guns there over the last 18 years.

I bought a gun at Scheels a few weeks ago. I wanted it and the price was only a little bit above internet prices.
Of course, even though I was carrying my ccw gun I had to be escorted to the door.

I drive past it everyday on my way to work! It is humongous! Liberty Institute is nearby as well...impressive size of that place as well....also a bit pricey though.

I have been to Liberty as well. It is quite impressive....a friend has a membership, but I don't. If you are a member, when your birthday comes around they let you shoot their gatlin gun for free! Fun to watch and it shakes the whole building!

The Fargo Scheels is very nice. I bought a CZ .22 from them last year off the used rack during a family trip to Fargo. The Bismarck Scheels which is much closer to where I live has a much poorer gun department.

The Scheels here in Overland Park is big too, the gun selection is very good with lots to choose from. My only complaint is that they keep the handguns locked in a case with steel mesh on the doors, like what is used on a wrought iron tables. Just makes it hard to "window shop" so to speak.

My experience is they have a good selection but you don't want to try to trade your gun in unless it's a very uncommon item. Buy a new gun there and sell yours privately. Scheels does often have some really good deals on stuff if you catch the right time. The closest one to me is 150 miles so I don't go often and usually it's "You should have been here last week".

This is interesting. Never heard of them, or I don't remember them. When I checked out their website I was inundated with running shoes and Birkenstocks. Never would have even gave them a consideration until Dave said they also had quite a gun department. Nowhere on their home page I was looking at do they mention guns. There was a little click box that says shooting. Clicking there, it still took multiple clicks to actually find shotguns, for example, and then each one said "visit store for prices". Surprising that they have a great department, but they don't showcase it. Don't s'pose I'll be visiting them any time soon.

Years ago, a few different Sheel's stores ( usually 2 or 3) had full-page ads in the old SHOTGUN NEWS, once a huge newspaper-type publication with only guns & gun-related classified ads.

Even w/o pics, the various entries had me drooling. - like literally dozens of different pre-64 Winchester Model 70's, to name only one kind of various guns advertised for sale.

The Fargo store had an interesting Ruger #1. You see occasionally #3's with #1 wood, but I have never seen a #1 with #3 wood. I don't see the purpose but interesting nonetheless......

The Iowa City Scheels store has a first floor full of Hogeye(Hawkeye) sports stuff with the "good stuff" on the second floor. Wouldn't want to upset the soccer Moms and tailgaters by exposing them to ikky stuff like guns and knives.

The Scheels in Reno is huge, even has a ferris wheel in it. When I was out there on jobs I would always stop in to see what they might have on sale in reloading supplies. Did a lot of ammo and reloading buying at the Scheels in Minot, ND when stationed there in '76-'79. They always seemed to have what was needed. And back then it was Sheels Hardware.
