Bought ammo at Scheels today

We have a Sportsman's Warehouse about 40 miles away.

I bought my Wrangler from "Sportsman's Warehous." I was ordering online and when I went to checkout, they offered a discount if I opened a card. If memory serves, I would have saved about $40 on my order so I applied. Denied!! I tried calling to no avail.

When I went to get the gun and my other stuff, I mentioned the experience to the clerk. He said, "They do that all the time." A week later I got mysteriously approved but I couldn't apply that discount to my previous purchase.

Also, I had heard they were being bought by Cabela's. I have a $50 Cabela's gift card so I sent an email to customer service asking if they would accept a Cabela's gift card. The response would be best described as angry.

They won't get any more money from me.

Yep, that sounds like a real scam to me... apply to get a discount... get denied so the discount doesn't apply then send you the card later? I get offers all the time for cards.... from Amazon and just about everywhere else....

While I was in Springfield MO several years ago, I stopped into the Bass Pro Shop there. I had heard of the place being a destination store so I went. It was impressive. While there I was looking at some scopes and decided on one. When I went to the counter to pay , I pulled out the only credit card I had with me, a Scheels. When I handed it over the nice lady behind the register was sort of hesitant about taking it. She told me that I could get a discount on the scope, which was already on sale , if I opened a Bass Pro card. So I applied. It took about an hour and for application and approval. I really don’t use it much, stores too far away.

Wow. I've had the misfortune to work in retail for about 20 years. The only times that a credit app takes more than five minutes is when the customer has his credit locked and has to call to get that turned off temporarily.

I am a sucker for that new card discount. For example, I was buying some casual shirts at Penney's. The total was about $150. I was told that if I opened a Penney's card, I'd save 30% and then there was another discount on top of that. I wound up paying about $90.

Sometimes it backfires and my credit score takes a big hit but that really doesn't matter at this point in my life.

My questions was what is your time worth and how much of a discount did you get off the scope?
Then again I need to pay for my firearm insurance and was fixing to write a check and saw that I could pay on line... went on line to do this and when I got to the final 'pay' part happened to look at the amount. Lockton insurance was going to charge me an extra $11 for the 'convenience' of paying on line.... I wrote out the check and am mailing it today.

Recently the city government here completely changed the water/sewer/trash billing. Used to have a 13 moth graph of your water usage and an envelope inside in case you wanted to mail your payment or drop it in the receptacle (what I do). Now there is no graph or envelope because they are encouraging online payments ... which they charge 3% for and on a big bill like I had for August, was $13 extra. I told them at the window I would come back tomorrow (due date) with a check. I was there in person to argue the bill since there was no graph.

Bought a box with four boxes of 25 shot shells today (whatever that kind of box is called) at Walmart and I can say I will never buy ammo there again no matter the price despite having bought thousands of rounds at that same store over the years (it's been a while).

Sure I knew the centerfire ammo was locked up and that they stopped selling "handgun" and "assault rifle" ammo but the last time I looked at their selection was during Covid and the shells were not locked up. They still weren't but they were behind the yellow plastic chain (kind of behind the register but off to the side somewhat). The boxes were too far from the counter to read the specs and price but I took a few minutes to try and decipher the choices. No employee there but there was a "PRESS HERE for assistance" button that did absolutely nothing. Called the store office and finally a maintenance guy and a trainee showed up to check me out. They couldn't figure out how to enter the necessary information so they called a third person who completed the transaction AFTER SCANNING MY DRIVER LICENSE. Yes, I should have said no and left but I was there so long already I just caved. What a PITA!
