ruger sp101 3 inch

Sounds to me like a good price. I picked one up back in the early 90s and have always been very happy with it. About a month ago I saw a slightly used one in my LGS case and traded a Taurus for it. The going price was $385. These SPs are built to shoot so enjoy.

I had one in .357 and liked it alot except for the crude fixed sights. As soon as the 4.2" adjustable sight version came out I traded for it. Same solid gun but better sights.
One of my favorites, so far as the grip goes I prefer the Hogue grip. Little better angle and doesn't whack my knuckle as hard.
I just sold my 4" gp100 and picked up a new 3" sp101. Its exactly what I wanted for a revolver. I originally thought I would get the 4" gp as an all around revolver that wouldnt be to big to carry in the woods and could be used to hunt with. Several years after buying the gp i decided that it was heavier than I enjoyed carrying and I would rather have a rifle while hunting. The 3" sp101 is just right in that its great to carry all day in a good holster but still heavy enough to shoot and enjoy. Wish I would have just bought the sp first.

The SP-101 is one powerful and sturdy little gun. Breaking one in is the hardest part. A spring kit can lighten the trigger pull, otherwise it is darn near perfect. 
I remember buying mine in the early 90s in Metairie, LA at WalMart on clearance when the Clinton era gun bans were beginning. I wanted the 2.25" barrel and the salesman told me all he had left was the 3" so I said give it to me. When he returned from the back, he had found one left with the 2.25" barrel so that's what I bought. I traded that pistol probably 15 years ago and still regret it but in retrospect, wish I would have picked up the 3" barrel too at the clearance price.

the 3" SP101 is the ultimate compromise between the little impotent pocket airweights and the "too big to carry revolvers". Mine gets carried 6-1/2 days a week on the average. Most Sunday mornings at church involve a semi-auto IWB...that's the other 1/2 day.
My SP trigger cleaned up real nice after several nights of constant dry firing and internal cleaning. The Wolff springs (only one step down from factory) made a little difference, but just a steady routine of working the action made a tremendous difference in smoothing things up.

Pretty tough little hand gun. I like the 3" as well. :shock: I shoot it quite often. I put most everything through it. For every day carry I like the factory 38 spl. 158 LHP. The SP's just keep on tick'n.

I just picked up a 3" SP101 early this month. I like the 3" size and it was on sale new locally for $479. I got the last one out of the case!
I put in a 10lb Wolf hammer spring and a Hogue grip. The spring really helps that heavy trigger.
I have a Meprolight front sight that came in today to install.
It completes the set for me and I love it!

Nice find/purchase. I sold my GP-100 with a 4 inch barrel/blue years ago, and regret it. It was a joy to shoot and accurate to 100 yds. I found a 3 inch SP-101 several years after selling the GP. It carries very well in a Ken Null IWB holster. Shoots everything I put in it, but only accurate to 25 yds. after that accuracy fades rapidly. Of course I'll use my blackhawk .357 6.5 inch barrel for hunting Or any of my .44 magnums.
