I just recently ran across a 3" GP100 44 Special in 'like new" condiion for sale. The seller is asking $700.00. I have owned many revolvers over the years, but never one chambered solely for the 44 Special. It has my interest. This model has the unfluted cylinder, and does appear to be like new. From looking around, these seem to be quite rare. At this price, should I make a move? It comes with the factory box and papers. I just thought I'd throw this out there and see what the consensus is. Thanks for your opinions.

I don't think it will make the sale of the century but I think it sounds like an interesting gun at a not at all unreasonable price. I'd probably buy it if I found it somewhere. Dibs on backup spot in case you pass. 
Although I don't own a Ruger GP100 44 Special, they're great guns! The weak link is the rather thin forcing cone, similar to the S&W 696 44 Special from the 90's, which I do have. There's no way I'd hotrod it!
It would take more than $700 for me to sell mine. I think all GP100's in 44 Special had unfluted cylinders (I could be wrong on that though).
And Cholo is right, just use standard pressure 44 Spec in it. No +P or exotic rounds, and I think it'll have a long and happy life.

I agree. I load mine now with factory type loads.
I have a GP 100 in 44 spl with a 3" barrel. I like the way the gun fits in my hand and it handles factory as well as my reloads just fine. I did not pay $700 like you have run across, but sounds like a fair price to me. I paid less, but then again, it was a Cabelas used gun in their gun library.

I think they are great guns. I handload for mine and probably a little over standard pressure and never a problem. My grandson likes it too, so he may have to fight the rest of them for it out of my small accumulation when I’m gone. I’ve paid a little bit less than that, but it’s worth it to me.

I track these on Gunbroker and that is a great price. Go for it!
I like mine. Not as fun as my single action .44 Special revolvers, but it a serviceable revolver. I was going to possibly use it for CC, but it is so much bigger and heavier than my CA Bulldog. I do like the gold dot front sight, but did replace the oversize wood grips that were on it. Will conceal better. As said above the thin forcing cone is the weak point. But standard loads should be just fine.
