My wife has connections to both sides. Her stepmother is a great, great grand daughter to John Doyle Lee, the only person executed for his part in it and my step daughter married a great, great grand son of one of the orphans spared under the age of eight. We live at Cedar City where the local militia was sent from to do the massacre.
A few months ago three young Mormon missionaries came to our door. I asked them had they heard about the Mountain Meadows Massacre and they hadn't.
Both 9-11`s are a shame and it`s a shame many mormons right here where it happened don't know about it. How many of you hadn't heard of it?

What our family was doing on 9-11

Hey Guys,
At the time 9-11 took place around 8:45AM or 9:45ET (CRS) was when I became aware of it. My wife and I were flying back to Houston from Norfolk Va.in our Beechcraft Bonanza. We had just spent 6 weeks with my Son and Daughter.
At that time I received a radio call, we had been in the air about a hour, from Air Traffic Control to land immediately. I thought something wasn't right before I got the call. The reason was that a Mercy Flight, flying sick folks, out of NC was told if he landed at his NY destination he wouldn't be able to take off. ATC would not tell him why, so he went back to NC. It was about 10 mins. later when I got "the call"
I asked what was the reason and I was told that there had been a national emergency and we had to land at either Raleigh Int. or Chapel Hill NOW. I chose C H because it is a nice little airport. Boy did I make the right choice for once. I was given a phone number to call when I got on the ground.

At that time I told the controller that I had four kids in the Navy, Son, Daughter, Son and Daughter-in-law, and I wanted to know what the He## was going on. Needless to say I was SCARED I thought someone had set off a Nuke.
The controller was very nice then and told me what was going on.
Anyway we landed at Chapel Hill NC and spent 2 days there before we rented a car and drove back to Norfolk and stayed another 10 days. We could not fly and the kids needed our help. We saw the second tower fall on the TV in the airpot office.

Within 2 hours after the attack my Daughter was flying the air group personnel out to the aircraft carrier Harry S Truman, while it was on it's way to New York City. The F-18s could not land without the LSOs and other support people that had to be flown out to the boat.
My Son-in-Law flew his helo that day to go to a ship off the coast of NC to support a Marine amphibious force that was being loaded on board to go to New York City.
That night my Son, who was flying the Navy radar plane, was flying off the coast of New York to see if any other aircraft were coming. If so they would have been intercepted.
It was a bad day for every American. I will never forget how scared I was at the time then how mad I got.

After all these years it still does.

Hi,

I have a client whose brother was working on Wall Street at that time. His wife worked in the first building to be hit, and he could see both quite well from his office. The wife had a meeting to take across town, which she could do in the morning, or wait until afternoon. Figuring it would be easier to get it over in the morning, she took a taxi to wherever the meeting was. She'd barely stepped out of the taxi when her building was hit. Mean time, he was watching both buildings burn, and said he'd never forget watching people jumping out of them.

Add another client's ex-husband: he'd been a contractor working to build those two towers. I wonder what thoughts went thru his mind seeing them as they came down?

A prayer goes out for all the survivors, as they probably still need as much strength to deal with their loss today as they did 17 years ago...

Our descendants and our descendants descendants, will be fighting Islam. Some of the kids born on 9/11 will be joining the fight very soon. This is not even close to being over.

A few weeks after 9/11/2001 a guy asked me how long I thought this war would last. I told him it would last longer than me.

Today I went to the same facility that I went to on 9/11. I drove over the same spot on the freeway, at the same time, and was listening to the same news radio station. Not a single word about 9/11 then or the rest of the day.

But on the way home, I drove by Pepperdine University. It sits on Pacific Coast Highway just north of Malibu, Ca. This is the sight that greeted my eyes. Just as it has every September since that terrible day.

Funny how a bunch of college kids, who really aren't old enough to remember the day, remember the day when the media can't.

Update to my previous post about the radio station not even mentioning 9/11. Well first thing in the car this morning I have that station on and they are talking about all of the events that occurred "yesterday" to remember the day.

I guess they are a day late and a dollar short. Typical of the new media.
