When the Macaw was outside, he was a real rat magnet. I used a Dyana Chaser Co2 in 22 cal to discourage them. Has anybody done ratting a hit them one the run? They were way too fast for me.

When I was 13-14 we had an old barn that was infested with rats. The barn had a concrete foundation about knee high and the rats could only get through the concrete at one place where a big crack had opened up. It was OK to shoot them with the concrete foundation as a backstop (Dad allowed that) so I'd lay in wait for one to come sneaking toward the opening. Now and then I'd miss or there might be 2 rats in sight so I'd pour it on the runner with the Nylon 66 making pockmarks in the concrete until I either hit or the rat got around the corner. Come winter time, I made it tough on the running bunnies, also.
Later in life when I gained access to full auto firearms, this bit of experience came in handy. o_O

It really wasn't much challenge to walk along the washes and shoot them as they sat sunning themselves. So for sport we would intentionally miss the first shot to get them running. Over the years I used a variety of rifles, shotgun (.410 Mossberg 500) and handguns. I finally came across a set up that works very well.

An ancient, by today's standards, C More reflex sight. By design it doesn't block your field of view as much as some sights do.
Been thinking about a MRD but I'd have to retrain my hold. As it stands it comes up and on target fast and tracks well.

My wife is one of those who puts out food for all creatures, targeting the squirrels, chipmunks, and birds. So we get other visitors as well, mostly possums, skunks, and raccoons. But several years ago we started seeing rats living under our deck, which is intolerable to me. I tried poisons and traps, but to no avail, so I bought a crossman pump pellet gun and laid in wait just inside the back door, propped open just enough to poke out the barrel. Once I popped a couple of them they all disappeared. Per the advice of an exterminator I left the corpses where they lay, and the rest of the rats found somewhere safer to live.

No, you will just have a feral cat problem or, be stuck with tiny yappy rodent impersonating a dog. The feral cats around my neck of the woods would eat a Papillion alive. They survive winters with hungry yotes.....
Speaking of cats. After my meat hunter died, he was 21. I thought I might have problems with vermin.
But my neighbors cat filled in the void nicely. He does such a good job I give him treats from time to time.

It's surprising how far rats will move if/when their current residence is destroyed. When older Son lived in Iowa, some buildings on a farm across the section were torn down. One was a rat infested wood/concrete grainery. Within just a few days, rats showed up at Son's place 1/2 mile away across open farmland.:oops:

Can't speak regarding RATTING, but my SIL has taken quite a lot of chipmunks with his long barreled pellet gun. His is is a cheap pump model that I'm sure only cost $100. I just gifted him a Benjamin Marauder in .22 with a "reach-out-and-getcha" scope. He's excited just waiting for an opportunity.

Mice have destroyed the electrical on my tractor, ATVs and recently my car. They never touched my cars/trucks. But my Malibu wasn't used much when I was on medical LOA recently. They chewed the harnesses apart.....we have way too many field mice here.
Chipmunks are incredibly destructive. I have a 22 cal PCP with decent scope and a single shot 22 short that I use to eradicate them. They destroy septic sand mounds.
With all the yotes, fox, feral cats, snakes, hawks, owls that we have here it's aggravating how many chipmunks and mice we have.....and the damage they cause.

marauders are great air guns. The Diana Chaar I am using is accurate enough. (I can pop medicine vials at 20- 25 feet) with the comes with it scope.
When I was a kid we raised free-range hogs but had a farrowing house for sows with piglets and a supplemental feeder in the woods range near the farrowing house. I learned to shoot by ratting there. I became a very good rifle shot and rats on the run on many occasions. Fun Times!!!
