I will admit I haven’t looked into this and may be all wrong.

Got my email notice from the NRA that my electronic magazine is available. I took a peek and as with the print version I can look the American Rifleman.

With all of the savings on mailing, why can’t we look at all three magazines?

I do a lot with the Friends of the NRA. I'm a life member & a Heritage Society member.
I have not yet even tried to sign up for the digital magazine because I too HATE the whole idea of it.
I expressed that exact sentiment when I went to the SHOT Show at the folks at the NRA booth.
I do understand that many of the younger crowd prefers "digital" or online or whatever. I DO NOT.
I know many could care less. I CARE.

But as to why you can't look at all 3,, well, I have zero knowledge as to why not. I too would pose that question to them. In fact,, I may just ask that of them directly.

The answer is on page 51 of the May 26 issue.
Download the NRA Magazines app, and you can access them all...😉

I've been getting both digitals, although I requested the Rifleman only. Have yet to receive the print Rifleman which I also requested.

Been getting lots of requests for money . . . just like the old days. :(

"whats the big issue with a digital version?'

For me,, it's a few different things.
(1) I'm old school, and TOTALLY prefer a printed magazine to read, study, flip back & forth through the pages, and if I want to save an article,, I can put a tab marker on the page & go back to it whenever I wish. That that can be 10, 20, 30 years or more.
(2) I take a magazine with me in places it's NOT easy to try & carry a computer. Such as a deer stand as an example. I save a lot of magazines & a few books,, all year long to give me something to enjoy while sitting in a stand. ANY electronic device is NOT as easy to use in such situations.
(3) I'm "computer stupid" in that I have problems navigating the myriad CRAP,, that is USELESS to MY preferences because computer nerds seem to THINK that ALL of us are GLUED to an electronic device. They WANT us to use THEIR preferred method of communication. They are FORCING the use of THEIR type of communication upon many of us.
To go along with my being computer stupid,, I will say that in almost 34 years of Miss Penny & I being together,, the ONLY, and I'm dead serious,, the ONLY bad arguments where we were both angry & fighting was over her trying to teach me computer stuff. I'm a "hands on" and "plain english" type of person. I ask a question of "why?" and there are many things that can NOT be explained. Example; I see a task bar that says; "Send to" and I want to send something to another place. I click on the "send to" and I try & put it where it shows me a place (such as Documents) and it doesn't work. Apparently to do many of the things I want to do,, which SHOULD be a simple 2-click thing,, require the re-routing & a dozen clicks & places to get what I want done. So when I ask "Why?" Penny finally came up with the PERFECT answer to my question. She said; "Because Bill Gates & his computer nerds do it that way just to screw with you!"
But that is actually kinda true. For those nerds to keep a job,, they must constantly create & re-create stuff just to keep their jobs. Look at all the CONSTANT updates & such they forcefully install to allow us to continue using a device I paid for. Or,, even worse,, an "upgrade monthly fee" that allows them to have direct access to my banking account.
(4) I'm NOT glued to any digital device. I do NOT live by my phone, or computer. I actually have a LIFE & do things away from such devices.
A printed magazine is a form of freedom for me to easily choose what, where & when I wish to read it. I do not have to rely upon electricity or a battery to do it.
(5) If I want to have a printed copy of an article or whatever,, I will have to download & print it myself. THAT'S WHY I PAID FOR A SUBSCRIPTION!!!!!! To NOT have to print something myself. Plus,, to have a professional, slick paper copy will not happen on my equipment.
(6) I do displays of Ruger stuff. I use printed magazines to be part of my displays often. I can't display my computer.
(7) When I paid for my Life membership,, I was told; "You will get 12 months subscription to American Rifle MAGAZINE." I was NOT told; "You will get access to our digital computer based articles or whatever,, that we can remove or delete whenever we wish."
I'm no longer getting what I was told I would get.

I know I could add a few more reasons I prefer a printed magazine,, but I'll stop. You asked what was the big issue,, well, I've listed a few of my issues. I know many could care less. I know many prefer to live in a digital artificial world. I know many feel a printed magazine isn't their preferred method of reading stuff.
THAT'S PERFECTLY FINE for others. I have no problem with their preferences. But my preferences have been ignored & done away with.

I don't have a dog in this fight as I don't get either version, but whats the big issue with a digital version?
For one thing, I either have to sit at the computer to read it, which get uncomfortable, or look at it on my phone, which I can't friggin see. I would much rather have an actual magazine that I could take in the crapper or read in my bed before going to sleep!

I looked at the digital version of the Rifleman and it was impossible to read anything.
If I was an annual member I would not renew my membership.

I dislike most online articles. They have to have enough space to fit all the ads on the page so they fill the page with tons of crap before they get to the meat.

You see something that looks interesting, "Intact P-51 found in mountains," so you click on it. First they have to tell you what a mountain is, then they have to explain what a P-51 is and what WW II was. Then they'll talk about the pilots. Finally, they'll tell you that a P-51 was found in a barn where it's been since 1944 when it made an emergency landing the farmer hid the plane in his barn. All of the above was interspersed with dozens of ads.

Bah.

I'm sure the NRA will disagree with me but I think most people currently life members just became irrelevant. We became life members thinking we would get the magazine for free forever. Just one less thing to think about. Most of us continued to donate to the cause but on our own terms and time. Then when we got old and less active politically and more focused on health and med problems we still felt connected when the mag arrived monthly. I used to subscribe to all the gun mags now I just subscribe to the remaining 2. Soon to be none? Online mags will soon be written exclusively by AI and they can fire all the authors. The entire NRA can be run by 2 computers one for AI writing the webpage masquerading as a " magazine" and I running legislative updates. Even lobbying efforts could reduced to a single letter ,AI generated ,sent to an email group of senators and congressmen to oppose HB112 or whatever. Many of the members just like gun magazines. If we get rid of that how many will we lose? 50% 75%? I guess we're about to find out.

Physical magazines have a feature that online one's don't. When I'm done with my copy, I can give it to you. The advertisers get much more bang for their buck. I had a friend who used to give me his G&A, Shooting Times, Handgunner, and Shotgun Times. I'd then pass them on to my neighbor. The advertisers got a three-fer.

There will be no mo re donating to the NRA! There is no way in hell they should have let Virginia pass the uncontrollable dumb a$$ guns laws that will shortly become effective, and absolutely have no effect on crime!!

After three attempts my third attempt took. I received the first link last month. I received the May link a week ago. Yesterday, I received the May issue in print. The in print is a whole lot easier to take to the $hitter than the computer.

The NRA allowed this? What about the Va. residents and business owners , who obviously voted the elected officials in? I’d look at them first. NRA didn’t vote those anti gunners in office.

The NRA did NOT "allow" Va to pass anti-gun laws. It was the VOTERS!!!!!!!!!

If the panty waist,,let someone else do it,, gun owning types who do not VOTE,, complain,, then they get what they deserve.
They whine & complain about all kids of things,, then refuse to actually vote.

And it's not just Va. I have guys I know personally that are like that. They just refuse to take the time to vote saying; "It won't matter,, my vote doesn't count."

BS!!!!!!!!!!!

The anti-gun types get elected BECAUSE they are organized & motivated. They vote.

But this thread is about the NRA magazine,, not the way Va has gone.

Look at all the $$$ they can save by not printing and mailing the magazine! Then the NRA can spend more time and $$$ asking for more cash from us...! I'm sure the NRA stopped putting your membership expiration date on all the materials they mail to you so you'll continue to think you have to re-up and send them more $$$... We need some straight shooters at NRA headquarters more now than ever...

As of this year the Wayne LaPierre "Old Guard" BOD members have resigned or were overthrown by the members that voted them out. At the All Members Meeting last week, several By-Law changes were approved by the members to reduce the possibility of BOD enhancing their financial status from NRA financial transactions with vendors. After today's BOD meeting, I would hope Amanda Suffecool will will enter a post on this forum to up date those concerned.

I used to get a couple of gun related real magazines in additon to the monthly from the NRA. Plus about severn different motorcycle related magazines. And going back several years, add to that a weekly news magazine like Time or Newsweek. Now the only actual magazine that come to my mailbox is the every other month Smithsonian Magazine which always has at least one good article that interests me. The good old days are long gone.

I wish we didn’t allow NRA related threads at all.
They always …. Always turn to :poop:

Us old guys will all be gone but the NRA won't be all good. Online magazines just don't work. Just think of anything you want to know about guns and go look it up online. Why would anyone want a magazine format online? It just doesn't make sense. Real magazines can be saved stacked up collected indexed etc. and enjoyed and referred back to for years. Or traded and donated to barbershops etc. I predict this will lower membership in the NRA. I know as a young man I joined the NRA because I liked guns and wanted the magazine. At the time I knew nothing about politics.

Don’t mail me something I have to recycle or throw away.
Save your money on postage and just send me a link.

It’s funny ( not in a good way ) all the cheapskates whining about the NRA wasting money yet demand they print, handle and snail mail something they can get to their “supporters” virtually free.

Just ain’t no pleasing the haters …… hell, most are still bitching about Wayne yet, send no love the NRA way for finally getting him gone.
