Ok I had another thought. "Canes" but my "thoughts" usually end up costing me money! Not just your typical drug store cane. But tactical, fighting walking canes. I can carry a cane anywhere- federal buildings, government buildings, airports, planes, churches (required in my church-well nearly), bars, sporting events, ect. All the usual places prohibited by federal and state law under carry permitted states and constitutional carry I assume. You don't have to be old, or "rode hard and put up wet" like me. ADA prohibits even security from inquiring as to why you need a cane. With some training these things are deadly. I don't see the cane as a substitute for a handgun, but in addition thereto. A strike with a cane could give me additional time to get to the gun at bad breath distance for example. Additionally it gives me another option to using deadly force although a strike to the head with a cane can be deadly force or very serious permeant injury. My hobbies besides shooting handguns and playing a mandolin badly is visiting my orthopedic Dr about every four months for whatever body part isn't working or not working without significant pain. It's been the knee, trigger fingers, shoulder and currently the right achilles tendon. Additionally due to most of my back being fused (T4-S1) and having a brain (yes I have one despite comments to the contrary by She Who Must be Obeyed) bleed stoke, I use a cane from time to time. But legally one doesn't have to prove that. If interested I refer you to American Cane Self Defense by Dr/Grand Master Joe Robaina for examples of training and canes he designed and made by Cane Masters, and to Cane Masters for a head spinning number of canes and some training videos. Just something I've had thoughts about-well "obsessive compulsive" as I've ordered a cane designed by Joe Robaina and made by Cane Masters and sighed up for his six weeks online Zoome training twice a week. The cane is like a gun, just having it isn't a replacement for training. BTW the average age of Joe's students is 68. I'm 77 and some of his students are in their 80s. Both ACSD and Cane Masters have a number of short YT videos. If interested here is an example of an informative video by Dr/Grand Master Joe Robaina . Now I got to quit thinking or it will cost more money.

I think about Job a lot. I think about his sufferings and how God restored him back to more than what he lost. But I wonder how that works. You can restore money, property etc. I don't think you ever get over losing your family. I can't understand how supposed to think it all ended up ok when in reality it didn't. It's a very confusing thing to me.

But it wasn't "all over" yet for Job. Part of Biblical teaching is that all believers will face trouble and trials, but enduring these, faithfully, will reap greater rewards in Heaven. As Scripture teaches, all old things will be forgotten, all things will become new. To him that endures, a Crown!

Yesterday while sitting at my desk near the front window someone rang the doorbell. I looked out the window and it was a young black man. His appearance was neet and was driving a small Mercedes. I didn't recognize him and was not expecting anyone. I have a "no soliciting" sign that's not very effective. I did have some empty boxes on the front porch to take to recycling. I thought later maybe he wanted some boxes, but they were not very visible from the street. Bottom line I didn't answer the door. He sat in his car for some time and left. I've been wondering if he were white would I have opened the door to see what he wanted. On the other hand there is nothing I wanted to buy or listen to a sales pitch from anyone regardless of color. Just "wondering".

I would like to think if he was selling books possibly, was I armed ? Was he selling or witnessing .. hard to say . It is a shame what the world has made us all into .
 
I love the clocks in baseball. every other major sport has them. keeps me interested.
I don't like how delivery companies are letting drivers use their personal vehicles. Unknown vehicles coming down my driveway gets my attention, sometimes they don't even have a company uniform on.
 
Bowzette mentioned canes. I was in Scheels a few weeks ago and purchased a 5' 5" wooden staff. Now I can part the waters at the Marina. Made me feel like Moses when I walked around. Spent some time carving in some notches on my cane too. Thirty eight of them to be exact. Since I am 80, doubt if I will ever have occasion to put another notch on the staff. No, won't say what they are for, just leave it all to your imagination...

I've trained with all sorts of srick-style weapons. Canes are great because they can be carried anywhere ( I've got a weird story in a sec). Hapkido has had incorporated cane fighting and hanbo fighting almost from it's inception. A current favorite out there now is one with a sharpened hook.

Weird story: I was walking down the street with a cane around 5 PM ( icky neighborhood) many years ago. As I'm walking I start absentmindedly playing with it on what I thought was a deserted street- wasn't really even noticing that I was doing it. Next thing I know a cop pulls up and stops me. Asked If I needed the cane to walk. Not being stupid I told him I had a trick knee and that sometimes it's fine, but if it goes out I can't walk without the cane ( complete BS) and I like walking distances, I why would he stop me for walking with a cane (complete BS on his part) Apparently someone called the police because my "movements made them nervous". He did at least apologize for stopping me, but...
 
Joe,don't know when the cop incident happened, but today this would violate HIPPA. Some peace officers may know this, some may not, and some just won't care. But your response was great-lot better than arguing HIPPA with a cop, you won't "win" that one. I see the cane as a "tool" that may keep me from having to shoot someone, or giving me the time to shoot someone if needed. Regardless of what state you live in, you can't legally walk around with a gun in your hand, but you can with a cane. Cane in hand has an advantage of pistol in holster, usually concealed, re: the "21 foot" standard with a knife. Obviously wacking at someone with a cane who has the "drop" on you with a firearm (or a knife, if he is close) is most likely to get you shot, or maybe stabbed. In that case if they want my money or phone they can have it unless I am certain he's going to do me in anyway. Most of the time the robber types take the goodies and flee, but not always. My assessment is someone with some basic cane training and some mobility (don't have to be a martial arts black belt, but that wouldn't hurt) has and advantage over the typical street thug with a knife if not surprised. Not much defense with cane or gun if some BG walks up and "sticks" you without any warning. Kinda makes a guy wonder how he is ever going to get out of this word alive :) Two really good YT channels on the cane for SD.
