Mark III competition?

I want the most accurate of the Mark III for target. Is the barrel special on the Competition? Is the trigger lighter? What makes the competition special besides the longer flat sided barrel?

Buy the cheapest one (stainless or blue, your choice) and send it to Clark for a complete rework. Then, you will have a first-rate target gun.

Otherwise, buy one of the longer barreled models with target sights and try different ammo brands and types until you find out what it likes.

I have heard of clark. I wonder what it would cost for a complete work-up on an Mark III.

I was hoping that by getting the competion model, that I could avoid the extra expense. Hoping the trigger was pretty good...that they did some special work on it...otherwise why call it the competition model?

Will put red dot on it.

Do not expect "custom" work (such as trigger work,) on the competition models. They give you an excellent platform to build into a serious competition gun if you wish. However, I have a MKII Competiton Target model, and I will say it's quite good. I have shot it a LOT and it's sweet. The more you shoot, the better it will be. However, if you feel the need for a super tuned competition model, the a custom gunsmith is the best way to go.
The size & configuration of the competiton model is what makes it the best platform for serious shooting.

How good do you want it? Is sub 1" at 25 yards (Lapua Pistol King) good enough?

My MKIII Competition with drop in parts and a JPoint reflex sight will do that.

The wait for pistol work from Clark can be months. Best to call and talk to Clay before making any decisions. Clark does sell complete pistols, but you may have to wait a year to get one.

I have a MK III Target and a MK III 22/45. The only real change I have made was to install a Voltquartsen trigger. The guns are capable of shooting better than the guy holding it.

Only change in my hunter was the VQ trigger, didnt really need anything else.

Another vote for the Volquartsen parts. I have a Mark II target with the VQ hammer, sear, and trigger. From a sandbag rest, you can cover 10 shots with a dime at 25 yards.... we ain't gonna discuss group size when fired offhand.

So what is the advantage of the competition over a regular 5.5 inch bull barrel in the Mark III?

The competition is a little longer barrel, but mechanically they are the same.
