GP 100 Grips

Rubber and wood.
If your gun is a 3 inch barrel, use the compact grips.

This!

I personally have no problem with the feel of the factory rubber finger-groove grips; however, I have come to prefer the original design, because it allows you to make the gun so much more beautiful with inserts like these:

Satinwood burl, followed by stabilized Spalted Maple

All my revolvers sport Hogue grips. Most of them are wood, but I do have a few with the rubber grips. Fits my hand better than any grip I ever used.

I have both for my 5 inch bbl GP100. I like the rubber with wood panels very much for how they fit the revolver and how it positions my hand when shooting the revolver. I ordered the Hogue wood grips checkered and with no finger grooves primarily to dress my revolver up and make it look nice and I have only owned them a couple of weeks and the jury is still out on which I will like best for shooting.

I'll explain in a little more detail. If you compare my two grips you will see that the Hogue's position your hand a little lower and further back on the revolver and for double action shooting that is great, but for single action shooting it makes me kind of stretch to reach the hammer with my thumb for cocking the revolver. I hope that makes sense.

For some reason, the OEM rubber finger grooves just didn't fit my grip. They weren't the prettiest, but did fine absorbing the 357 recoil. The Chig's grips inserts with the rubber grip seem to be the best of both worlds for me.

I feel the same way about the OEM rubber grips, Hogue offers two different types on their website. If you look at the picture of my Match Champion above you’ll see that the grip I use is closer to the Match Champion wood grip than it is to the OE rubber grip that comes on most GPS.

I have a first year 6" half-lug .357 and liked the original grips fine. Had a set of elk antler inserts with their "bark" low enough to not catch my skin in recoil fitted to it, and they look better and feel and shoot great.

I like the Hogue Tamer, Sku: 80020. It fit me much better than the stock hogue (sku 80000). The 80020 feels slightly thicker.

80000 is rubber while the 80100 is nylon, if you like the monogrip.

This is why options are good!
Different likes and dislikes ….. different hand sizes, strength, shooting styles, etc.

I had a Match Champion and for me, the wood grips ( besides being butt ugly ) were horrible in fit and feel. LOL

Rubber Hogues and Pacs …. Can’t say how many I’ve either thrown away or given away to some unsuspecting soul. :ROFLMAO:

Yep. I have wood on my 3" .44 Special GP-100. Would like to find a 'shorter' wood grip for concealment purposes as the one I have has finger grooves (yuck) and is 'big' for the gun. Rubber just doesn't belong on a revolver (or pistol for that matter) . Opinion only.

I just got a shipping notification on my compact rubber grips from Altamont. Turnaround time was about 2 weeks. They did come forward and say that there's usually a lead time for these as they don't keep this particular grip in stock. We'll see how it feels on my Wiley Clapp. I definitely found the rubber grips that came with it to be slightly on the awkward side of large.

I've always felt the rubber grips on a concealment firearm was uncomfortable and caught in the clothing. I would also like to find a smaller wood grip for the GP100-44spl about halfway between the Badger and stock..

I prefer the feel and appearance of wood, but I will use rubber on large caliber hunting revolvers. I simply hate the 2-tone rubber/wood varieties.

Last year I picked up a nice set of walnut grips and they are quite comfortable. I perceived an improvement in scores. Sorry, I can't remember the vendor, but I believe it was Thailand.

Not a fan of Thailand, but I took a chance and it worked out well.

Have the Hogue finger groove for really hot .357’s, but most of the time I have the factory compact grips on this 4”. The gun came with the wood insert full size, like all three grips for different reasons.

Nice looking grips! Are these Altamont grips thinner than the comparable Ruger grips?
Thanks. I think they may be a hair thinner, but I never really noticed. They do a good job with any round I put through it. I was happy with the Ruger rubber grips but thought the Chigs panels deserved a little something extra. I never had any desire to fill my hand more with Hogues.

Mine came with the Hogue rubber grips with the finger grooves. They fit my hand perfect. I ordered some rubber with wood inserts and tried them. They look much better but I shoot better with the rubber grips. So they stayed on it.
