Anyone remember "The Wonder Years"

I see on TV that they are bringing back a new version of the 1981 series "The Wonder Years" starring Fred Savage. And just to be politically correct, of course it has to be a "black" version.

Is there nothing they won't do these days?

I give the show maybe three episodes. Not trying to open the can of worms that is race issues. But you know darn well all kinds of people are going to be all upset and screaming the show is racist. Not for a single second are they going to realize the show is depicting the life and times of people black and white of the late 60s.

Hey, they are rewriting the books, taking down the memorial statues of past conflicts and now the the movies ,and tv shows are following suit...sad state of affairs really......... :roll: 8)

I think that Hungary is one of the few, if not the only one, protecting their heritage, people and borders........ :wink:

I remember The Wonder Years oh too well.

I had been out of the service for quite some time and was raising a family, somewhat later than most folks. The Wonder Years emulated much of my 'normal' life of the late sixties, when many of us were wondering what was to happen of us, especially with Vietnam stretching out so long. The sixties kept of us in limbo. Plan to go to college or get married, have kids, all while still waiting for a draft notice.

I'd come home from work, have dinner, and tune in The Wonder Years. The theme song haunts me.

This is not a show that should be copied in any way. Start your own show. :?

Danica McKellar will always be "Winnie Cooper"--the one and only--for millions, though. The fact she's a brainiac in real life and writes math books on the side is icing on the cake

You mean Super Cooper ! I kind of didn't care much for the kids big brother though. It seems like he enjoyed getting his little brother in trouble. He needed a good smack down. I had a big sister and we got along great.

Absolutely! There is a whole other universe of untapped fiction waiting and roles to go around, but gotta be diverse these days when it comes from show biz. Hearing some diversity is the most important thing on Earth. It is hilarious to watch and hear how stupid things have gotten and it is most all one sided and exclusive. One of the reason I ignore words like: racism, white privilege, white supremacy and more are getting like that. Can you imagine someone making Shaft or Foxy Brown with white actors? You would hear screeching and screaming about cultural appropriation no doubt.

Bringing back "Highway to Heaven" and Michael Landon's role is now a black woman...Not a crime in and of itself, but come up with something original.

Cinderella with a male "Fabulous Godmother"

I think the worst thing I've seen that was ridiculous was the movie "Overlord". It was a zombie-type horror movie that made you suspend your belief in many ways, though it was well done and not a bad movie. However, what killed it for me was that the main character and the platoon/First Sergeant (who were both part of a unit for the 506th of the 101st Airborne) were black. That was just an obvious pandering that couldn't be "suspended".

I've got no problems with casting anyone in any role, as long as it makes sense to the story and isn't trying to either recreate a prior success or re-write something of historical or literary importance/significance.

This trend of dredging up successful movies/TV series, and then recasting them with diversity picks is just obvious pandering and indicates a wholesale lack of creativity.

IMHO, if a movie is based on a book, the characters should be presented as originally conceived by the author. If you want to mess with that, do not use the title from the book nor attempt to get publicity for your movie as a "woke" version thereof. Again, JMHO.

Like "Apocalypse Now?" Reputedly based on Joseph Conrad's book, "Heart of Darkness." Of course, half the people who saw the movie wouldn't even recognize Conrad's name, let alone work.

Way back when, coworkers tried for weeks to get me to go see the original Star Wars. They knew I wasn't a sci-fi fan, and asked how I liked it when we walked out of the theater. I told them it might have been the best cowboy movie I'd ever seen. They thought I'd lost it right there,

A few years later George Lucas was being interviewed and was asked what his inspiration was for the movie. He said it was cowboy movies when he was growing up. One never knows where inspiration may come from, or how it will manifest itself!
