I worked as a tech writer for a couple decades, and worked on many Preventive Maintenance manuals.I looked up preventative thinking it odd that some don't care for the word & preventive is the alternative.
I guess I lived in a different environment where "preventative" was very much used. I pulled an over 20 year hitch in industrial maintenance & the spelling is used almost exclusively, & seen in most if not all service manuals.
Personally I could care less of however its spelled. As long as it's close it get's the point across for me. Just find it strange to see this word another way when I've read/said it one way probably >10,000 times.
Okay, I told TLMS (a native Nicaraguan) about your new word (mierdador for plumber). She thought it was pretty funny. But she actually liked my definition for it better (a notorious slinger of BS). I think it's gonna be used here around the Snakepit from now on.FABULOUS! I'm gonna teach that one to The Lovely Mrs. Snake.
Or maybe the definition could be someone who is a notorious slinger of BS!![]()

You mean your physicality is lessening? There are a lot of words out there that are rarely used. So when we hear them we question if they are actually real words. I think what is more interesting is that once a word like physicality is heard. So many people jump on the band wagon and start using it. It seems like they believe that if someone has to look up a word they use in the dictionary. It makes them look a step above everyone else. I remember hearing the word physicality for the first time on Dancing with the stars years ago. Now it is a word you can’t go a day without hearing someone say it. Maybe I’m just getting old and don’t like change.
Menticality too! Yout' is a distant memory and I ask the grey bearded man in the mirror what happenedYou mean your physicality is lessening?![]()
You totally lost me.I watched part of one of these new fangled webinars a couple months ago trying to figure out if a software program for my drone would do what I wanted and in the first 10 minutes.. the folks putting this thing on came jump with:
Digital Twins. (this is a digital drawing of a picture of something by the way)
Vertical Assets (this is a tower)
and the best was: " Intelligent replicas of reality".... (this is a digital drawing of a tower or such)
It's not really quantitative it's more of a state. It can change. My Physicality 40 years ago Rock Climbing and Motorcycle Racing now it's Chair Rocking and Stuff Riding. You mean your physicality is lessening?![]()
Physicality isn't a word most would use. It's features would be tall, short, fit, muscular, fat etc and possibly an overall assessment of fitness for a given task. To mix old and new, I'd say, "...your physicality is attenuating."You mean your physicality is lessening?![]()
I'm more Gravitationally Enhanced than I used to be.To mix old and new, I'd say, "...your physicality is attenuating."
To paraphrase Slim Pickens in Blazing Saddles... "Golly Mr. Baseball! You use yore tongue perrtier than a twenty dollar hore" !!! (Couldn't resist)Of course, unnecessarily complicated language has been around for a long time.
From my GI days, I recall a DI accusing me of, "...urinating in the prevailing westerlies."
While "...do what I say, not what I do," morphed into, "...homo sapiens who reside is structures of super-headed silicon should not propel objects constructed of basalt."
