.30 Carbine forcing cone erosion.

Have you tried scraping the forcing cone?
While it looks like erosion carbon build up can look similar. I've made scrapers from brass stock that remove carbon and lead. The forcing cone can be recut as well. See if the build up is hard as steel or if you can scrape a bit loose.

I haven't had opportunity to lay hands on it yet. Good idea about the possibility of carbon. Will check that out. Thanks.
Also has a PolyChoke rib on it. I think those were installed with some kind of glue. Need to do some research on that.

Looks like a lot of lead to the sides of the barrel on the frame.
Some of that crud on the barrel may be a buildup.

I've seen that crud look many times. The .30 carbine is like that every time it is shot and it always cleans off with some effort.

The Poly-chole rib is typically very easy to remove. Clamp the RIB in your vise, and twist the revolver. The rib should pop loose.

Lewis Lead Remover kit might clean that up in a few minutes.... I have one in several different calibers...they come in handy at times.

I got to lay hands on it last friday. It is not carbon buildup. It is honest to gosh erosion. Over all it is in good condition. It has been converted, but the original parts are there. Decisions, decisions.

I'd first try to see if you can re-cut the forcing cone. If not,, then having the barrel removed, re-cut & set back properly would work.
