30 carbine

I have a pair. Love ‘em, everyone should have one 😉

It's very accurate, fun to shoot but EAR SPLITTING! Even with good earmuffs! I like the balance better with a same size steel grip frame replacement for the alloy GF it came with. Super BH Hunter with the round trigger guard size grip is even better.
If you want to shoot it a lot with .30 Carbine ammo you'll eventually have to deal with forcing cone erosion. However it's also versatile if you want to avoid the muzzle blast.
But you have a few alternate choices of ammo especially to avoid the ear splitting report of the 30 carbine:

1- The .30 M1 Blackhawk Ruger, Old or New Models, will shoot .32 H&R Mag and 327 Federal Mag:

You'll find the .32 H&R Mag and the .327 Federal Mag much more fun to shoot in your .30 cylinder. Performance of the .327 Fed Mag is closer to the 30 Carbine and with fine accuracy. The case neck of the longer .327 may be a little tight in some .30 M1 cylinder chambers (they do vary) and need a bit of honing. And the cases will expand only an extra .007" per side or so near the base. You may get a split case occasionally with much reloaded used brass near the middle of the case, but not usually. If you reload you don't have to full length resize and therefore not unnecessarily overwork the brass.

2- AND if it's a New Model it will also shoot off-the-shelf .32-20 from the same cylinder, no re-chambering needed because the cyl chambers do not enclose the case head (like the old model .30 M1 Blackhawk cyls). If you reload, you can even reload 32-20 in .30 Carbine dies and the case necks will not be worked as much. Use a .32-20 shell holder. There's a difference in bullet diameters, .312” vs. .308” but they shoot with fine accuracy.

As noted,, they can be loud to shoot. But what I found was that they are no louder than any other model if you reload & use a powder other than a military type ball powder. Apparently,, the military ball powder used in surplus ammo is the culprit in the noise dept. When using a ball powder,, it seems to be louder.
Experimentation in loads can be fun & make it more "normal" sounding.

They are fun, accurate, and all the things mentioned above.

Or a Universal with S/N below 60,000, then it is full mil-spec and a bit less worry about damaging it.

I really like mine. First time I shot it I was expecting a 38 +P. I was surprised regarding the recoil.

Loud and fun to shoot. Pairs well with my M1 Carbine. Recoil less than a .357.

Yes sir I love my M1 carbines
Mine are a first year (68) four digit Blackhawk with original numbered box and paperwork and a (42) first year Winchester M1 carbine. Both are very accurate and fun to shoot. Yeah it’s loud but what I really like about the Ruger is the fireball when you shoot it.

I wonder if you loaded it like a pistol faster powder it might not be so loud.

Haven't got around to shooting mine. Guess so long as you don't shoot it, it's the same as any other Blackhawk.

had one [ old model ] with short barrel.... paired with my marlin 62 in 30 carbine:

kept the marlin, sold the revolver which was just too loud for me to use, would have kept it if it had the longer barrel
Ruger never made them with a short barrel. Obviously whomever chopped it soon discovered why and sold it!

I’m curious why people think it’s THAT loud.
Ever shoot a.357mag with a 125gr JHP over 21gr of H110?
The .30Carb uses 15.0gr and a 110gr bullet.
My experience is that the .357 is louder, and has a greater concussion than the .30Carb.
Loud compared to a.22lr? Yes!
My Single-7 in .327Fed w/American Eagle 100gr Spt @ 1,500fps (10gr less bullet, 1.5gr less powder at same pressure) is just as loud!
I think folks just like to brag on the .30carb BlackHawk. I’m rather fond of mine!

Fired surplus LC ammo cases cling to the cylinder in mine; have to punch them out. No problems with commercial ammo. Both mil-surp & commercial ammo is very loud. Shooters have come to see which rifle I'm using on the pistol range. It's a fun, easy, & accurate revolver.

It's loud for the same reason it makes giant fireballs. The greatest portion of burn happens at the muzzle. You can make anything loud and/or blow fireballs with an odd load. To each his own but a 125 grain .357 is odd even if common.
