Boston Blue -- a big disappointment

I was a fan of "Blue Bloods." Started watching it because I like Tom Selleck but I liked the characters and the stories. Blue Bloods ended and "Danny Regan" (Donnie Wahlberg) headed to Boston to "help his son."

From the git-go, the storyline seemed silly. First Danny goes to Boston because his son, a newly minted Boston cop, was injured. He wound up working the case with a Boston detective. OK, that makes a little sense but then he decides to stick around because his son "needs family" so he gets a contract with Boston PD (still carries his NYPD badge). Really, you're going to upend your career because your son needs a friendly face? Helicopter parent?

To emulate the family dynamic of his NY family, his Boston partner has to have an interesting family. This black woman detective has a white step sister who happens to be the commissioner of police. To make things more interesting, the mother is the DA, and married a Jewish judge and they converted to Judaism. So the Reagan Sunday dinner has been replaced with Shabbes.

Oh, it gets better. The black, female, Jewish detective's black, Jewish half-brother is a Boston cop who became best friends with Danny's son at the academy. What a coincidence! To make it even more fun, they're partners. Two rookies, right out of the academy are partners in a patrol car.

The whole things feels forced. I gave it three episodes and still can't like it.
 
The premise is ridiculous, the coincidences are over the top, the accents are terrible.

Some beautiful drone footage of Boston, but that's it.
 
Much more openly antigun than Blue Bloods that was antigun enough. I assume that's Wahlberg's influence since Selleck tried to keep it toned down. I watched the last one and the whole going after the parents for the son's actions was blatantly liberal crud. In one scene the father is teaching the son to shoot and it seems to be inferred that the son wouldn't have gone postal if he hadn't had access to the family handgun and training. They make it seem like the kid being in the early stages of being a serial killer (kills family dog and draws violent pictures wasn't his fault).
 
I try not to watch "series" type shows; the first episode of Boston Blue convinced me not to watch that one in particular. I don't have particularly sophisticated tastes, but this was even below ME.

Blue Bloods was a very popular show. Even during tough times,, the actors took a PAY CUT,, to keep it going.
Yet,, Communist Broadcasting Show,, (CBS) chose to cancel it.

Then, miracles of miracles,, they spin off a show,, with "Danny" and use the same names, some of the characters, and basically mirror the Blue Bloods.

With a big glaring difference.

Blue Bloods was built around the Catholic faith, white Irish types,, (which has been a huge part of real NYC LEO).
Now they have made Boston Blue interracial, gay, mixed faith, and such.

I'm NOT prejudiced.

I just look at things & try & figure out what is going on.
Miss Penny & I have watched Boston Blue,, and were discussing WHY did CBS do the things they did????
Blue Bloods was not PC, WOKE, Interracial, or diverse enough for the writers & the liberal types in Hollyweird. THEY are trying to force their attitudes & beliefs down our throats. Including gun control etc.

I hope the show fails,, and costs them a lot of money.
 
I agree with most, the show does not have the charisma and appeal of the original. I might give it a few more episodes, but I would be surprised if it lasts more than a year.
 
I was a fan of "Blue Bloods" for many, many years. But in the next to last year of this series the storylines seemed to be more and more like a soap opera rather than a "police show". Its as if the writers had just wrung this concept dry over the many years that it ran and were not grasping at straws to come up with idea for an episode. So when it was announced that it was going off the air I really did not miss it. I haven't watched this Walberg spin-off, and based upon the comments here I might not bother.

FWIW, if you get Prime Video, and then add BritBox there are many good "police" shows from the U.K. and Ireland that are worth watching. One that I particualy like is "Blue Lights" which just started a second season. Good stories, well written and well acted. In Ireland the police are armed, unlike the U.K., so some of the stories are more realistic in my opinion.
 
I liked Blue Bloods and recorded the last season on my DVR and finally watched it. I watched the first episode of Boston Blue and didn't care for it and haven't watched any more. The lead actress (actor (whatever)), Sonequa Chaunté Martin-Green, smiles too much. She did the same thing on Star Trek, Discovery. My wife is a big Blue Blood fan so she is still hanging in there with the new show. I don't think it will go beyond one season now that Paramount Global owns CBS.

I haven’t watched that episode yet. I won’t be watching it or anymore of the series.

Same feeling it sucked tried a couple episodes that it no more toke it off recording mode

This has nothing to do with some silly TV show BUT--YES REALLY. I took early retirement in order to ensure my blind Son accumulated the credits needed to get his BS degree. I reckon it's fairly simple for some.

I never cared for NYPD Blue. I did watch it a 2nd time through though, just to make sure I didn't miss something that would have made it better. Between Ricky Schroder, Gordon Clapp and Andrea Thompson, I couldn't stand their characters.

My favorite was Homocide: Life On The Street. Especially when they did crossovers with Law and Order (which I also like, but the anti-gun rhetoric gets old). I really liked Andre Braughers character. It was hard to watch when Det. Pembleton had a stroke. You could really feel his frustration.

Most TV shows are anti-gun. The Law & Order franchise gets me because they just make stuff up (I guess that's the nature of fiction). Recently, I saw an SVU episode in which the bad guy bought a rifle at a gun shop because "there's no background checks on rifles." In another episode, a New Yorker bought his handgun in Connecticut because "there's no waiting period."

Another thing about TV shows is that everyone can buy a gun on the street. In a show I saw recently, a 14 year old girl from the suburbs bought a gun to shoot someone. I wouldn't have a clue where to get an illegal gun.
 
I gave up on the original show when they killed off the wife. I was not that into it by then anyways.

I enjoyed Jamie and his partners more. He had a more developed character than his older brother.

I still miss Barney Miller. Truthfully probably the most realistic crime drama ever.
