    Ruger drops the 77

What you said! +1 I like certain aspects of the American design, but the American also lacks some characteristics which make it a serious hunting rifle IMO. I bought one son an RAR in 243 as his first centerfire. And older son got a Hawkeye previously. I regret the purchase of that RAR, not...

Finally got a 45colt load data narrowed down

"Ruger only" type loads generally top out at around 25-28,000 CUPs, considerably less than the 44 Mag. These include loads such as the one I shoot in all my Colts...BH, RH, and M94 Winchester, which is 23.0 grain of W296. It pushes a 300 grain jacketed, or 320 cast (RCBS "300", nominal weight)...

    All SOLD- Mammoth Ivory

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I hope it's a fair deal and believe it is. The three lots together amount to over 25 pounds of material. That's about $12/lb if someone wanted all three lots. It would be pretty hard to find a deal for twice that much, and 3x or 4x is very common. I can...

    All SOLD- Mammoth Ivory

I am offering three lots of old mammoth ivory. It's mostly core material, much of it checked and cracked, but layered in a useable fashion. It is dried for several years so it quite stable. Each lot is $120, shipping included via USPS medium Flat Rate. All three lots can be purchased for $300...

Why do almost all of you use such heavy bullets.

Rick, Reading all the articles he has listed on that site: http://www.customsixguns.com/writings.htm shows several things; for one, he talks about how effective even modest loads can work, the sub 1000 fps stuff. He also talks about why heavier cast bullets can work better in terms of ignition...

    77 Express Rifle Owners?

I remember the 404 Jeff in the catalog; never saw one in life however. I'm quite surprised they go as cheap as they do. They are a fine design and quite well executed IMO. Mine is a 375.

    Blackhawk .45 LC info

I wish someone had told me that that stainless 4 5/8" Blackhawk was not suited to heavy loading. Sheesh, I've run two 8 pound jugs of W296 and several more H110 pounders through my 44s and 45s, at least half of it through the Blackhawk, and mostly at a rate of 23.0 grains making steam for 320...

Anyone using Red Dot powder for .45 Colt loads?

I’ve used 6 point one or two grains with an RCBS 250 for over ten years; I took my cue from an article by Brian Pearce in Handloader Magazine. It’s a nice mild shooting, accurate load.

Bear protection. Let's stir the pot.

Elmer will be happy to know that the old Special pretty much maxes out the potential of the caliber then... It sure does......255 grains vs 300 grains.... Kind of like saying both a Ford Ranger and a F250 are equivalent for moving snow, or whatever...

Bear protection. Let's stir the pot.

That was exactly the point I was trying to demonstrate by using the 150+ yard lengthwise caribou, full penetration as a demonstration of, a point you and a few others got, but flew over a few of the theorizing “experts”. Momementum matters, and mass increases that momentum at the same speeds...
