Good morning. I am considering shortening a 7.5" barrel on a super blackhawk 44 mag to 5.5"-6.25". Am curious at to how much weight that will shave off. Anyone have that number? Formula for weight per inch?
Thanks in advance.

My math says it'll be a reduction of 1.47 ounces.

Find volume of the outer cylinder (I used .715" average diameter for the Super Blackhawk )
Subtract the volume of the bore (.429" diameter for .44 Magnum)

Volume of steel in the barrel section being removed is .3225 cubic inches

1 cubic inch steel = 4.57 ounce. So .3225 times 4.57 = 1.47 ounces.
