Maximum
Ruger DID actually rollmark 16,314 frames and/or completed guns. The highest number out there, the number came from Wanda Santana, now retired, is 600-11588. (not reeeaaly true, more on that in a minute) So that means Ruger "scrapped" a minimum of 4,726 Maximums....personally I see that number at 6,000+ The last Maxi's were rollmarked on 6/18 and 6/19/84, a total of 2,185 The rollmark on the frame was changed to include the letters "SRM" somewhere between 600-11588 and 600-13809. According to communications between Ruger and dealers the shipments of Maximums would stop until they could solve some "engineering" issues. I feel this was around March of 1983. Ruger did not rollmark another Max until 6/18/84 other than a small batch of 33 frames on 7/1/83 Tom Ruger displayed the Max at the 1984 Shot Show with a banner that read, "The Max is Back" Bill Sr. got wind of it and immeadiatly had them pulled....he had already made the decission. Now, so far, and I do mean so far, there are only two (2) known complete Maximums with the SRM roll mark. 600-14120 and 600-16306 yes, I own them both. 600-14120 was one of the 33 guns roll marked on 7/1/83 It was given to Joe Callahan, head of Advertizing for Remington by Bill Jr. 600-16306 was roll marked on 6/19/84, the last day for the Max, and completed and shipped in August of 1984 to The Gun Gardian Center-Houston in Stafford, Texas and was marked for Joe Bowman..
