This Forum vs other Forums

Again,, as a longtime member here,, I can smile as I recognize the very things all of y'all have posted.

I just had a snarky bunch of posts to an honest post I made on another Forum. I wanted to fire up,, post a blistering reply,, and basically tell that bunch of juvenile idiots to kiss off.

Then,, I decided that,, no,, I wouldn't. That would have put me at their level. Instead,, I'll sit back,, await for some of the very same people ask for help or want something from me,, and I'll politely decline. I'll PM them with a reminder of their attitude towards me,, & say; "Bless your heart"

I guess I'm spoiled here. Members are MUCH more polite here than what I found.

And heck,, I had a person here recently send me a PM,, that when I first read it,, after having a bad day,, I reacted very terse in a reply PM. Later,, after I'd had time for my day to settle down,, I actually re-read things,, and realized I'd been a bit terse & basically wrong in my reply. I sent another reply,, apologizing to that fine member here.
I know he didn't mean to upset me,, and truly,, it was my fault for reading it wrong.

So, again,, this place,, TOP NOTCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, a great bunch of guys and gals. I have had the pleasure of meeting up with a bunch of ya at Rugerfest’s (East and West), and other far flung outposts. Rick in California, and Marlin in Alaska, both of those gentlemen were instant friends when we first met! Then Cholo, 32MagFan, and I met at a gun range in Viola, Tn. VolShooter and I have met up at the CANNON SHOOT, in Pelham, Tn. Several of us are in the healthcare field, others are HAM radio operators, Cholo and I went to the same college at different times. It goes on and on! Thanks guys for a good forum!

As stated, deep knowledge and great folks here, what struck me was the comment about the fact that as a group we seem to focus on more traditional steel and walnut guns. This is something I hadn't thought about, but is probably one reason I like it here.

I too miss Fast Ed & the daily cartoon he gave us.

We have had some wonderful people as members here who are now discussing serious Ruger stuff with Bill,, and chuckling at all of us still here.

And yes,, Jim,, the steel & walnut thing does have a great appeal. While it's not everything we discuss,, it does have it's own flavor.
 
I just looked at my joined date and it said 2017 but I know I must have lurked here for 15 years or so just gaining knowledge , I never needed to ask a question because a simple search from the archives or just scanning for information has enriched my life, my collecting, my reloading in so many ways… Thank you Ruger Forum
 
I have checked in to RF everyday since 2013 (unless I was away) for many of the reasons already mentioned. As noted in some of my previous posts, I attempted to register as a member many times over the years so I was tickled pink to finally become a member. I suspect we will see a number of new members now that registration is possible. I also appreciate the effort the mods and members put into keeping things civil all around.
 
Mt first gun related forum and still my favorite. I check in at others but I live here (since 2004, IIRC).
I do hope we can attract some new members. Any organization depends on growth and new blood. Without it, we age out and die. I realize a lot of newcomers will be more interested in the newest, latest offerings of Ruger and other manufacturers while I'm more interested in the stuff that was made 40 years or more (mostly more) ago. That's ok. We still need newcomers. And maybe some will come to appreciate the "old stuff" as they are exposed to it. Y'all have a blessed day.

As to the foul language, I worked in the auto plants for 42 yrs so I am kinda immune to it. I agree it isn't needed but there is still good information to be had in those other forums.-
 
I've been a member here many years , albeit visiting periodically .

This is a fine Forum . In addition to the Ruger emphasis , also good coverage of all around gun- ish topics . Alas , with demographics , aficionados of Blue Steel and Walnut are far outnumbered by people who have only known Tupperware . So , yeah , we're a Niche group .

There are Forums with emphasis on technical or historical minutia , and there's certainly a place for that .

There are Forums that are more , freewheeling " , and there's a place for that too , but they have to be careful to not step over the line to buffoonery .

I will observe that if you wish to deep dive into the world of AR , that the Second Largest AR Forum is much calmer , more rational . and more useful than the largest .
 
I came here after being a member at Jeeps Unlimited (no longer a forum) for several years. While there was a lot of good information on fixing and building jeeps, there was also an attitude. "Dumb questions" got you called turd or worse. When I joined this forum, I expected the same, so pre-empted the name callers with my call name. After a while, I realized my mistake, but just decided not to change and rejoin. This is the best forum on the net IMHO.
 
Good and bad people everywhere. The forums I belong to, I chose because I owned or currently own at least one firearm of the associated brand. Own a few Rugers, so here I am.
There are threads for technical stuff which helps the mechanically inclined, which I am not, I let my two sons work on my guns. There are threads that keeps us up to date...latest news, laws, politics and more light hearted stuff. So, this is a great forum.
 
I started coming here when I bought my first Ruger years and years ago. But this forum, and especially here at The Lounge, is much more than just a gun related forum. It is like the proverbial coffee shop or barber shop where men gather (and some women) to talk about just about everything. I don't think there ever is a day that I don't check in here to see what's going on and what is new.
 
My reaction? it's the first place I come to whenever I need the absolute correct answer on anything Ruger. It's a bit of fun to watch several guys jump in to answer an "easy" question, then to back up as some one provides proof of another possible answer. The difference of this website over the others is the huge amount of members that later say, "I was wrong" and give credit to the correct guys. And THAT is how you know that we are dealing with mature people!
 
This was my first forum as well. My experiences nave been quite pleasant. The most enjoyment was with Rugerfest back in day in Fredericksburg. Many of those members are no longer with us and the site where we met has changed ownership and no longer has the range.

I love my Rugers and will add to accumulation as the opportunity presents itself.
