Hope all in NC and VA are OK as this storm is rolling through. It is a big one. Not familiar with all routes but would imagine Rt 9 in Mill Spring could become 'interesting' when snow covered.

Very happy to see that the storm is going out to sea and won't be bothering those of us here in South Central Pennsylvania.
I have no problem leaving the snowblower in the garage while others to the South of me run theirs day and night.

Got out around 5:00 PM and there was 10 inches of snow checking level areas and still coming down.
Local weatherman said maybe another 2-3 before it moves out late tonight.
They guessed on the low side for this storm in our area but this is the biggest snow I can remember
this early in December. A sign of the winter to come??

It started snowing here about 6pm,, after a day of rain. Heavy, wet snow,, that has downed a lot of trees. We lost internet about 7pm last night, then lost power about 3:15am. I got out today with the tractor, and scraped the road from my range to my house,, and my driveway. Only had to cut one tree out of the way.
I came in and as we were starting to prepare dinner,, the power came back on about 6pm.
And the state has not scraped my road yet,, but NC #9 I think has been plowed at least once. We are fine here!

Glad to here things are generally OK. My granddaughter lives west of Richmond (actually I now know where that 'bum' place in Egypt' is after a visit to her). They had 5 inches and it was still snowing last I heard.

We got about 12"-13" here at the house. To me,, not a big deal. We have gas heat,, plenty of water, grills & camping gear to cook on,, and if necessary,,, a generator. I didn't even bother getting the generator out.
Of course,, we have the "doomsday freak out types" around Trashville,,, eeerrr,, Asheville,, ,who have panicked, DESPITE the week long warning it was coming. And,, according to the official weather report,, we didn't even break the top 10 of the all time snow events for December. I think they said it was #14. In some places around the area,,, the snow got upwards of 20 inches,,, but it was in places that see a bit more than we do here.
As Miss Penny says; "I've got Pepsi, a good bathroom, a fireplace, and a way to cook. I'm good to go!"

When Linda and I hear 'snow' we just go about like it was only one more day. We have a stocked freezer, pantry, and an all house generator. Prior preperation make things much easier. It is unbelievable how some wait till the last minute to get stuff from the store when the storms are predicted weeks in advance.
As I posted earlier, the snowblower is ready to go if and when needed.

Nothing yet, no snow to speak of on the passes yet. No problem both cars have FWD, all terrain tires and chains if necessary. Plus 35year of Alaskan winters behind us. Gas heat, underground electric service, emergency supplies, etc. Overkill for this area but aver all that time up North one just needs to keep things ready even if it's really not likely to be needed.

I think the single biggest thing about snow, for those that live in snow prone
areas, is to prepare, as so many here have already said. I remember
several times where being prepared made the difference between having
a snow storm be a MAJOR inconvenience, or just another thing you
deal with each Winter.
The funniest (to me) was one Winter about a decade back when we had
a forecast of about a foot accumulation for the end of the week. I made
sure the shelves were topped off with supplies about three days before
the storm was due, made sure the snow blower was ready, and all the
little things that are convenient. Come the storm, and after most of it was
on the ground, out came the snow blower. I do/did the driveway, side
walk, and I usually would clear about a car length into the street. The
neighbor next door was out with his shovel and mumbling not really to
himself (I'll paraphrase so it can be posted here) "gol-dangd crazy idiot".
Yawn. . . . Come the next week, we got hit with another storm that was
a bit more than the first one. Repeat of narrative for the first one. . . . .
The third week, we had ANOTHER storm that was over eight inches,
and I'll note that I was the only one with dry driveway, side walks and
street access to my drive. Third snow and guess who else was using a
snow blower (old one) that he had bought, AND clearing out into the
street. This in part because he had gotten his four-wheel drive pickup
stuck in HIS driveway a few days before. 8)

Selena, I loved that comment about having a kid complaining about having nothing to do. My brother and I learned very early in life never to say anything like that to either of my parents, or grandparents. My kids learned that lesson pretty early too.
