Single six accuracy

I have 3 single sixes in different configurations. All 3 are generally accurate, but it's interesting how one is very very accurate. It has fixed sights and a Bisley frame. I tried it shooting off of sandbags to just see how accurate. I would put it right up with a Mark II.

The funny thing is, it has the tightest chambers of all three. I literally have to use my thumb and push the rounds into the cylinder chambers. (Yes, it's clean, not all gunked up ) But I am just constantly amazed how accurate it is.

This gun and an OM bearcat I have, also extremely accurate. And curiously enough the bearcat also has tight chambers. Not sure if this is the secret to an accurate revolver or not, but I do know it helps.

Anyway, just some random thoughts after going to the range today.

Here's the revolver I'm talking about. I bought it for my birthday, it must have been 2008. What a great gun too, probably one of my favorites.

I got one years ago to learn how to shoot a handgun. It had tight chambers like you describe. Over the course of several thousand rounds I went from 5 out of 6 on the paper to consistently shooting 6 shot groups under 4" unsupported at 25 yards, good days I kept it under 3", and occasionally I'd get one under 2". That is better than I shot anything else I owned. I don't understand why there are ever used ones for sale.

A Single-Six is a good gun,,, and can be very accurate too. Tight chambers aren't usually the contributing factor in accuracy,,, as the bullet spins in the rifling before it leaves the barrel. You may have one that the rifling was cut with a worn cutter,,, allowing a wee bit more metal in the bore to tighten things up.
A good looking gun for sure.

Congrats! You got a great one. Although generally all shoot well, they do vary a bit. And each has its own preference for different brands of ammo, even though they're all basically the same gun.

Also shoot a 5 shot group from each chamber of your other Single Sixes on different targets using a rest. This will tell you if one of the chambers is keeping the other guns from grouping as well as your Bisley.

Thanks! Yeah it is a good one, the group was right around 2 inches at 25 yards, (sandbag) which for me is very accurate for open sights.

And Hondo, that is an excellent suggestion about 5 shot groups from the same chamber. On my blued single six, I have wondered if one or two chambers were "off" somehow. But a test like that hadn't crossed my mind.
