Single Six transfer bar length

I have a stainless single six in 32 H&R. I bought it used and hadn't gotten around to looking at it really closely, except for doing a trigger job on it, until recently. Upon running it thru some checks, I noticed that the firing pin wasn't coming out of the frame unless I pulled the trigger with force. A light trigger pull didn't move the firing pin. Looking at it closely, it appeared that the transfer bar was just barely reaching the firing pin. For a few bucks, I got a new transfer bar and the difference was obvious when comparing them. The new one was significantly longer and, when installed, covered the firing pin completely when cocked and the gun functions perfectly now. My question is this: Are there two sizes of transfer bars for some other models that might have gotten mixed up or was this maybe just a bad part from the factory. It kind of looked like it had been cut off but the top edge didn't show any sign of cutting and, in fact, had the satin finish like the rest of the transfer bar. Just a mystery I am scratching my head about, although thankful if was such an easy fix. Any ideas?

I attached a couple of pics of the old transfer bar. You can see that the shape is not normal at the top, lacking the dog eared shape. The firing pin had made a little dimple on the top edge where it was being forced under it and causing a little rebound in the trigger. That rebound is now gone. On the front side, the top edge of the bar had been pushed up from the bottom of the hammer notch just sliding over it. I have a hunch this may have been why I was able to find one of these for sale. Someone just sold it because it didn't work. lol

Have you made sure the base pin is inserted all the way in and locked in position? It has to be in order for the little pin on the end to hold the transfer bar back to clear the firing pin on the cocking stroke. :)

Thanks. Yeah, I checked that. It wasn't catching on the firing pin. just not enough coverage, it seemed. I should have taken a side by side pic before I installed the new one, but nope, thought of it afterwards. Here is one showing the new one. The original one barely touched the bottom of the firing pin when cocked.

Just a question. Are you still having any performance problems after installing the new transfer bar? Or are you just being curious to try to figure out what was causing the problem with the old transfer bar installed?

Thanks for asking. My original question is buried in the middle of the first post, about whether there are two lengths that might have somehow been wrongly substituted. Then I just blabbed on. The gun works perfectly now with the right transfer bar.

You may want to check to see if the new transfer bar is being pinched by the hammer. That is not a common problem but it does happen sometimes when parts get swapped around....There's others here who can better describe how to test for that than I can....If someone doesn't chime in soon, you might shoot a PM to Rugerguy or Hondo44.

Hope this helps.
