OM Single Six 4 5/8"

After months of looking, I finally found one! Born 1970 by Ruger ser # look-up. It has the neck feather medallions, which were phased out in '68, I think. Hold overs or wrong grips?


Was very clean! Kinda unusual. I don't think I am going to hafta tear this on down for a thorough cleaning. Maybe remove the grip frame and check it out.

Looks like someone really took care of this one, almost clean enough to eat off of!! Only thing I may do is remove the hammer and clean it up a bit.

The cylinder is etched with the last 3, I wonder if it was originally sent out as a convertible? It needs some cleaning.

Meanwhile I have this one on the way, has been converted. I need either a very early re- conversion kit or a base pin with a dia of .246-.247. I think the later oms base pin increased to .248-.249. They tend to jamb at the barrel and are hard to get out. Or I can take a k or 2 off and re-blue it. Hopefully it will be here by early next week. I should have a thin trigger if needed and all the other innards. This one was born '57, from Ruger ser # page. And notice it is a 4 5/8 as well! I need to be careful what I wish for!!

I’m going with LWAC due to the bluing (anodizing) loss at the lead in notches. Crossing my fingers. I told Joey that everyone needs a Lightweight-

The chipping on the cyl notch does look like an alloy cyl, but the color looks like blued steel when compared to the black alloy frame. Well we'll know soon enough.
Two nice finds! The steel gun with the XR3-RED grip frame leaves little doubt they're the original grips..

Thanks much, Hondo. There is another pic showing the top strap of the mainframe, the wear on the cylinder and the top strap kinda match. It could go either way,
If not, there is a lightweight parts kit on ebay for 850.00, give or take. YEAH, RIGHT!!!

Yeah, I just gotta study medallions a bit more! That gun is in pretty good shape, going to the range next time I go!!!

My RSS4 in post 4 is s/n 135xxx ….. Lowest known RSS4 is 128605 so it’s possible mine is first year of production ( for that barrel length ). Don’t likely add to the value but neat to nerd-out on some of the particulars.

remember its not just the medallions as to "squashed chicken" or not, it is the escutcheons for the screw, they are BLACK, not silver and match the OM black screw ,,,,silver medallion, silver hardware, = NEW models;)
all these parts can be changed and swapped , if done carefully.....:cool:

Thanks much, ,jusbadd! I somehow don't associate you with small part. To me you are beautiful guns, stags, grip frames etc.! I will definitely get in touch when I get it in. Sch. for delivery tomorrow, don't know if it will make it.
I am hoping for the alu cyl! But I will take it with a smile if it isn't.

Dang it Randy, you are making it hard to keep calling you friend!! Trying to spend money I don't have and get me in trouble! He found one of my favorites, an om ,45 Colt 4 5/8", knowing it was one of my favs and DM ed it to me!! Only problem is, it is at a fantastic price right now. Hmmm, I wonder.................
