Ruger Weight Question

I have a pretty nice digital bathroom scale. Last night I put my scoped laminated/stainless #1 in .45-70 on it, and it said 7.4 lbs. I put my scoped #3 in .45-70 on it and it said 7.4 lbs. So.....thinking it isn't very accurate at low range I hold each rifle and weigh myself. The reading was the same to the tenth. I would have thought the #3 would have been lighter. Does 7.4 lbs sound right to you?

Sounds a little light to me! I think a scoped laminated stainless would weigh at least 8+ pounds.

Yes, it does sound a bit light. My scoped K1A in 6.5x55 weighs 8 pounds 2 ounces. Hmmmmmmm!

Unscoped Ruger says 7.25 lbs for the .45-70.

In that case Swampman, your scope and rings weighs .15 pounds. LOL I'd like to find scope set-ups that light for a couple of my "portly" rifles.

Those scales at the post office are pretty accurate,... but I would not recommend walking in there with your rifles.

You can if they are in a box for shipping... then just don't mail them.

Never made a big difference to me. Ounces don't matter and even a couple pounds usn't a huge deal. Still only talking 7 or 8 lbs. Even 9 or 10 lbs isn't a heavyweight really.

BlkHawk73, I used to agree with you on rifle weight. I was still "much of a man" to 60+. Now I am bumping 75, have a bad heart valve so I cannot exercise to stay in shape. It now makes a big difference what the rifle weighs. Best wishes for all, jack
