I have a security six that the cylinder doesn't carry up enough for the bolt to drop into the bolt notch; the pawl looks very worn. Is there any source from which you could purchase a new stainless pawl?

I was always under the impression that most of the stuff Gunparts Corp. sold were salvaged parts. For this type of part I don't know how useful a used part would be. Maybe/hopefully Gunparts bought up Ruger's supply of repair parts when the security six was discontinued. Anybody out there that has bought this kind of part from Gunparts that could tell me whether they got something new or in new condition? Monday I'll give Gunparts a call and ask this question.

MyToy, The majority of the parts at Numrich (egunparts.com) come from disassembled guns unless it shows a different manufacture. For example, the sell a lot of aftermarket grips for the Security Six as well as having some Ruger grips.
You can also call Ruger to see if they have any in stock, and then see if they will sell it. Ruger willl not sell certain parts to the general public as they are classed as having to be fitted to the gun. I don't know about the pawl. If they do sell it, it will be cheaper than going to egunparts.

Historically Numrich sells ONLY New (old stock) parts. They, much like Jack First used to do or still does, would buy out the parts of discontinued models and basically be a clearing house for those and obsolete parts. You should see their old bound catalogues. A trip down history.

The other point to remember is that with only a few exceptions, a revolver almost always requires hand fitting. The timing involved with cylinder lock up is very precise and potentially serious. This part may drop right in and work fine. But do not be surprised if, like the part it is replacing and all the other parts around it that have worn equally with the one in question, MIGHT need fitting for proper timing.
In my experience Gun Parts Corp (aka Numrich) is a crap shoot.
You might get a new part, a used part, a wore out part, or a reproduction part from who knows where. Coincidently to this thread, I just recieved 3 parts from them this week. One was new and exactly what it should have been. The other was a pair of "new" factory grip panels that not only didn't even come close to fitting the frame of my gun, but had screw holes that were off from where they should have been by a full 1/4". I'll give them this much though, the grips were in fact, new...and did kinda-sorta resemble the factory grips. :roll: .
But that's not too bad though, because Gun Parts Corp is so used to getting returns that they automaticaly include a return slip with your order. You aint even gotta contact 'em first, just send the crap back.... Now, is that "after the sale service" or what?:lol: .

An ongoing crap shoot, that's what it has been for me.....But what else ya gonna do when they've perty-much got the market corned on hard to find stuff?

Try Ruger of all places. I bought a hand, cylinder stop & something else I forgot for my Security Six several years ago. I was surprised they sold it to me, but if nothing else Brownells may be able to special order it for you.

If the cylinder is just short of allowing the bolt to lock up, you can upset the end of the OEM hand, allowing the cylinder to advance further and lock up proper.
Chances of finding a 'drop-in' part requiring no fitting are slim.
