I finally got my round tuit today, and got my taxes done. I was going nutz
trying to figure out how I was going to pay sooooo much of my SS, in taxes.

Turned out that having the instruction sheet on a laptop, with resultant small
screen, is . . . not . . . a good idea. I missed one subtract amount, because
I misread the statement, having not seen one stupid comma. Once I went
back to the desk top computer and printed the work sheet, BINGO, the
taxable amount went down by thirteen thousand dollars. Still too much,
but that's a different discussion. :D

Advise from one old coot, to others here . . . USE A LARGE SCREEN,
if you are doing your taxes without printing various work sheets.
Old eyes are not always helpful. :D
(far better than none, but not always helpful)

We have used Turbo tax for a few years now it's well worth getting , My wife and I used a Accountant for years till my
FIL said his Financial Advisor (not a tax accountant ) said it will save him money , As tight as he was if he didn't have to pay a Accountant he was all over it , I asked one of my long time customers that was a Accountant about it , He hung his head down shaking side to side , That's putting a hurt on Accountants . Good enough for me We tried it and have been very happy with it .

Well, we got ours finished a couple days ago. I'm a bit hacked off since I'm not getting a full refund. Gotta buy more stuff this year so my deductions offset the new job promotion. That's the way it goes---make more/spend more. With the interest rates these days, it makes sense to borrow money to spend for the tax deductions.

We use the EASY button....................

My wife & I have been using the free (federal & state returns) TurboTax (online) tax filing system for several years now, and since retirement have paid zero on our tax returns (we also elected to have zero withholding taken from Social Security income & private 401k pensions/IRA distribution's).

We always have no taxes due, nor (of course) any tax refunds (since we don't do withholding).

The TurboTax computer program calculates EVERYTHING (even things we never knew about), as I enter the relevant return figures (income, outgoes, healthcare, charitable donations, local property taxes, whatever).

I'm usually done finished sending my state & federal returns via e-file about an hour after I start.

I've used Turbo Tax since it first came out. It just gotten easier and easier, and I have a few thing like income property and some investments to deal with.

The fact that it can look back at prior years and catch potential mistakes is a boon to most folks.
