Initially, i understood it as response to pres carter's trying to mandate metric conversion, but later realised any marketing change can be converted into some sort of a profit increase if handled right. like mcdonalds quarterpounder beating out A&W's Third Pound'er because ijits thought a four(th) was bigger than a threeI can go to any grocery store in my area and buy both a 1/2 gallon and one gallon size of ice cream - but only selected brands, like Blue Bell (the best ice cream in the world). Also, Costco sells Kirkland brand coffee in 3-pound cans. That said, I agree that many/most manufacturers have reduced product size while increasing prices. I saw where Taster's Choice instant coffee was $25 a bottle at Costco recently!
