Well its only going to get worse. Rounding up or down depending on where the number five in the center dept hits. Unfortunately pennies being phased out is only the beginning. The nickel is next costing over $2 per nickel to produce them. I wonder how long before lose change is phased out completely and digital currency is implemented just like they want with all the bells and whistles that go with it. 100% control of you entire life.

Cost goes up, size goes down. A "pound" of coffee shrank from 16 Oz to 13 to 12 and now I see 10.5 Oz. Like we didn't notice...

At some point it would make sense to change all of our currency to a new set of coins and printed paper money as a means of sort of offsetting inflation. It would also force those with illegally obtained currency to come forward or lose all of their stash. While in Vietnam we more than once issued new military "script" and likely cut down on how much the enemy held in what could be exchanged for actual dollars. The change might be on a 10:1 basis with the "new" dollar being exchanged for $10 of our current money. We would be going back to $5,000 for a new car instaed of $50,000 while the minimum wage might drop to $2.

Shrinkflation. Do it slowly and folks won't notice. I mentioned to my wife the the bars of bath soap we get are not only costing more, but are down to about 2/3's the size. But it's nothing new. Remember when ice cream came in an honest to goodness gallon size?

Year i have noticed that too, My bathing soap price is the same but its smaller, and its not just that... its pringles, chip, chocolate and other things.

The cost of minting currency should not even be considered...unless the purpose of the exercise is the elimination of currency entirely...which is the actual purpose. They could mint currency from Zamak, and it would still cost money to make the money. They are using the cost of minting currency to justify the digital dollar...in baby steps...and as you say:

"100% control of you entire life"

Not sure where you got that production cost from tho

Try to buy a quart, pint, or halfpint of something, and it might be liters or milliliters instead; pounds is marked in kilograms or millograms.

The closest thing now is 48oz. I miss the old square pints of ice-cream. I used to like maple walnut or strawberry. Now the "pint" is a round 12 oz container and no maple walnut unless you buy the 48oz size

I can go to any grocery store in my area and buy both a 1/2 gallon and one gallon size of ice cream - but only selected brands, like Blue Bell (the best ice cream in the world). Also, Costco sells Kirkland brand coffee in 3-pound cans. That said, I agree that many/most manufacturers have reduced product size while increasing prices. I saw where Taster's Choice instant coffee was $25 a bottle at Costco recently!
