Caught this picture on the trail cameras today. First time it has been clear enough to see that she is missing half of her left ear.

As kids on the farm we used to have a 22LR rifle on the tractor so that we could notch the ear of deer in our fields during the summer months. That way we had a better understanding of which deer needed to be harvested during the season. Not everyone shoots as good while filled with adrenaline as Annie Oakley. Might have been part of the effort to drag a deer or two to the barn after dark around the fourth of July. Even a 22LR in the ear canal has a tendency to expire a full grown deer. 😳 But those critters didn't have a notched ear at harvest time. 🤔

Suffered an injury and the tip just sloughed off. I have taken several whitetails with obvious injuries healed over. These are just two examples. The facial scar and split ear appear to have been sparring injuries from when the bucks were deciding who gets the does.
