Editorial in the Charleston (S.C) post and courier paper about how our legislature needs to pass a law enforcing an existing law that requires drivers to slow down and if possible move over for emergency vehicles and LEO's who have pulled someone over. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm against the law and especially doing this it's just that in my mind and the way I was brought up and taught it is just the thing you do. Do they really think making a law to 'better' enforce an existing law is going to somehow fix the problem? If I ran for office I think I would run on the simple platform of "just do the right thing" not all the other things they all try to rope us into believing they can do but just we as a people and I mean each of us as individuals just need every day to strive to do the right thing when confronted with a choice.

If people were more prone to doing the right thing, them cops wouldn't have someone pulled over on the side of the road to start with. And come to think of it, we wouldn't have any need for laws or cops neither.....
I guess all that sounds great to a liberal, but in real life, human nature ain't about doing the right thing. If it was, we'd all still be hanging out in the garden where life was perfect instead of dodging the police on our way to work every day..LOL.

Passing more laws is only a "feel good" approach to help a politician get elected. Actual enforcement of existing laws,, while actually applying appropriate fines or jail time will get better results.
People who push for more laws often give a blank stare when asked; "Who's going to enforce the laws & how is it going to be paid for?" If they do reply, they say; "LEO's" But when you counter with; "Given you want to defund the police, reduce police presence, allow minor crimes to go unpunished,, how can you get the LEO's to enforce such laws?" This is usually followed by stammering or stuttering.

More laws doesn't stop things from happening. Actual enforcement of existing laws will reduce crime & offenses.

So when they can't think of any more new laws , they come up with laws to enforce their old laws.
It makes perfect sense if you are a law maker.

Exactly.... but my real point is we should not have to enforce the first one... I know we all make mistakes and tend to push the envelope.... but still. I hold the door open for both women and men at the post office.... heck just recently I realized after parking at the grocery store and walking past the bin with the shopping carts in it... why not just take one of those back in the store.... why walk past them and get one in there? If you want to rant about worthless people (seems I do) how about the ones that are too lazy to put the cart in the bin after they've loaded the groceries in their car? Just like the ones that can't slow down and move to the left lane when they see a cop on the side of the road at a car window these lazy bums need to be put on a train for the free ride to camp.

I feel the same way about people that park in handicap parking spots that obviously are not handicapped, or don't have the placard or license plate.
Just pure laziness or arrogance. Really pisses me off.
Local police departments could rake is some serious revenue if they just enforced handicap laws.

Those no hands phone regs are BS of the highest order. Is it a bigger problem to hold a phone to your ear than attending to the distraction of a screen in your vehicle's dash?
Is it OK for a LEO to write a ticket for distracted driving when the LEO was seen driving on the highway with HIS phone held at 12 o'clock on his steering wheel OR staring at the info screen in his cruiser? When this question was presented to a MSHP administrative officer, the response was: "It's acceptable for an officer to use the information screen while driving".
So, the LEO is exempt from following the rules and regs he's sworn to uphold?
Last winter there was an accident on a high traffic highway in my county. It was basically a head-on crash on a two lane highway between a SHP vehicle and a pickup. There was one fatality but the investigation and follow up just quietly went away. Several opinions have surfaced but the most believable scenario suggests the SHP vehicle was on the wrong side of the highway just prior to the accident. Sounds like distracted driving by the officer was a factor.

That's because the police know more about guns, cars, and the law than the rest of us except when they don't and then it's OK because we can't expect the police to know about guns, cars, and the law.

Ticket two for not obeying the initial law
Ticket three for not obeying law backing up the initial law

Politicians can write laws till they run out of ink or paper but the only individuals that adhere to these various laws are the 'law abiding citizens'. They will not stop the hijacker from hijacking a car or robbing a store or any number of other offenses until they hold and prosecute them. Criminals don't give a tinkers-damn about laws. A case in point is an individual I am aware of (not a friend of) that built a Glock clone. He didn't go through the mass of BS paperwork I have to to purchase a handgun. That 'no serial number' hand gun law only applied to those that do things the correct way. I won't get into a discussion of my take on hand built guns. We are talking about laws here.

Had one of them just this morning. BMW so close that I could only see their windshield. I gently tapped my brake and they backed off a little. Then, when they could, they blew by me like I was stopped. We got around the corner to the intersection and guess who was directly in front of me at the RED traffic light. My wife has respiratory issues. Exhaust fumes and hot asphalt fumes can really be a problem for her. Her doctor recommended that she get the handicap parking permit to minimize exposure to the dangerous (to her) fumes.
Many people can't seem to grasp the concept that you don't have to have a visible issue to need the parking permit.

I'm with Mobuck about LEOs being above the law. For example - Walmarts here have the best 6 parking spots in front of each door reserved for LEOs. But they NEVER park there. Instead, they park on the sidewalk adjacent to the fire lanes! Wow! They not only block access for wheelchair bound customers, but they also hinder the FD from reaching water sources in the event of a fire. Just brilliant!

If I were to ever win a big powerball type jackpot, I swear I'd pass the bar to become an attorney. Then I'd have multiple cars with multiple cameras to drive around documenting LEOs breaking the law and press charges against every violation. This would make me a "people's hero" and I'd run for office. My agenda would be to increase pay for good cops and to increase law enforcement to Singapore levels.

First offenses = heavy fines. Second offenses = big jail time. Third offenses = caining. Forth offenses = choice of death or dispatriation and permanent removal from the country. Fifth offense = death.

The key to my agenda is that NOBODY is exempt. I don't care if you're the pope or the president. I don't care if you're penniless or have more $$ than Jeff Bezos. The laws apply to everyone and should be enforced equally.

I understand. I witnessed a screaming match between a woman in a handicap parking spot, and another man who was in a wheelchair. The guy in the wheelchair had to park in a regular space because she took the last handicap spot.
The wheelchair guy was furious as the woman had no obvious physical issue.
The woman was screaming that she wasn't handicapped. Her young son was handicapped and had an electric scooter that required a loading ramp on her van.
This was during Christmas holidays when parking spots were non-existent.
For some reason Christmas always brings out the best in people.

"Negotiate" or "navigate" around him?...if "navigate" then you were also in the no parking area, loading zone and had to go around the cruiser? if so look like A LOT of space available around that cruiser....not exactly a tight squeeze.... If "negotiate" does that mean you tried to talk your way out of a ticket? ;).....also, if it's a no parking area and a loading area does that mean you have to load on the fly? Did you take the pic from the dock? Seems like a lot of space between there and the cruiser....jus say'n.

Now that Florida is equipping school bus stop signs with cameras, it's going to make enforcement much easier on Local PD's. When a desk bound Officer can spin the recording and issue a proper ticket, Law Enforcement actually has a better chance to enforce existing laws. JMHO YMMV.
