I was going to check completed sales on Gunbroker this morning. Got this message and decided that I won't be signing on to Gunbroker ever again.... + their agreement says that they can send messages or telecons to that number:

"Select a phone number to receive a Code via Phone Call"

I just left Gunbroker and did a 'completed' search for Ruger Bearcats and saw nothing you described.

I know some sites will send a code to your phone when signing in to make sure it is really you.

I browse my watchlist daily, working great this morning. only real nuisance I run into frequently is pop-ups suggesting I change my password. I check no thanks, later, whatever, and keep moving.

I've been on gunbroker since the early years and it certainly has evolved. but as pointed out above, security checks are common on internet commerce sites.

ironic to hear so many complaints about merchants implementing security measures, followed by complaints of scams. I'll take the security hoops, the latter is a much bigger pita.

2FA increases your security 95% or more.

I know 2FA is a great safety feature, but I prefer it to be MY CHOICE and not a requirement to use Gun Broker.

If they did nothing to protect buyers, sellers and themselves folks would whine about that too.

First your internet options are going to be limited by not getting on board with security and eventually you’ll lose much of the internet in total.

I do hope you use strong passwords and change them often. We’ve recently had ( again ) two long time members with hacked accounts and scams attempted.

I keep fighting with AOL on my mail. First they reused to recognize my password so I did another. A week later and they're refusing to recognize mt new password. If I wasn't tied up with them for a ot of stuff I'd dump them in a flash.

I tried yesterday IIRC and got it again..... maybe because I haven't changed my GB password EVER (?).... no matter.... I'm not buying anymore.

I have had the same password there for years. If there is a problem, it seems from all others that have posted with no problems, that whatever you are doing is causing the trouble you describe. Perhaps YOU should reassess what YOU are doing and not blame the site.

After reading this thread I went on GB and got the same auth code BS.

Normally I never log off, and thus when I go on GB it recognizes me. Today, it did NOT recognize me and I had to log on again.

Obviously, things have changed.

GunBroker is a nuisance when logging in. They have more steps and prompts than my bank and credit card web pages. GunBroker is also the most expensive website for both buyers and sellers. I've been selling and shopping on Guns International lately. Much more user friendly and lower fees and good selection.

Not a security thing it seems like you get the code via text and have to enter it to get in ... but I bet once they have your cell phone number they will be sending you a text at least once a day reminding you of all the great deals they have.. I bought a SOG knife last year and they text me all the time... of course I could just tell them to stop but am too lazy....

If you have an account on GB, they already have your name, your address, your email address, AND your phone number. The reason you’re getting this pop up is because you’re not signed in and the website’s security program wants to verify it’s you. It’s called two factor authentication, it’s for your protection. I’ve had a GB account for many years. They've NEVER sent me a text. Like others have posted, you’re whining about them trying to protect your information.
