Don't let it go

I’m trying to talk a Buddy out of swapping his Single Six for a MKII. My best story is the time I spotted what I suspected was a squirrel on a limb 50 yards away on an island. To determine if it was worth my effort I took a shot with my pistol. I don’t know who was more surprised but I got wet.

So,, you are saying you are gonna let go of a MKII for a Single-Six?

I too have made quite a few astonishing shots with a MKII over the decades. And I have witnesses to several of them.
One gentleman loves to relate a story about me & how I shot a crow out of a tree at around 50 yds as well. He was quite amazed.

My Dad had an early Single Six convertible but sold all his guns when I was born.

When I got into guns my first must have was a stainless Single Six

About that same time my Dad got back into guns, his first purchase was a MKII slab side.

2 great guns with lots of memories. I agree both are must haves.

I'm a bit confused from the title and the content of the first post. I'm guessing a buddy wants to trade his Single Six for someone's MKII?

If so, buy his Single Six and he can use the money to buy the MKII....you seem more broken up by his choice than him and this way you and he will know where the Single Six is incase he wants it back.

I'm actually not a fan of the single six... but I really can't wrap my head around getting rid of it just to get a MKII when the obvious answer is to have both.

But then I did watch contender and some other guys from here shooting a single six and they were having trouble even hitting the berm (exaggeration by the way) until someone discovered they were shooting 22lr's out of a 22mag cylinder....

There is a current thread where a member was flamed hard for actually admitting to knowingly doing that.....but the alibi for poor accuracy was different "POA".....he dumped the six for a semi.....but now has it back again apparently....so should be interesting posts to come.....

I understand the OP, it took a couple reads but I've got it now. I would acquire the MkII and keep the S6. I'd also refrain from gunning island squirrels unless there's a canoe handy.

What did I win?

I have, currently, two MK Elevens*. The one I got over a quarter of a century ago went directly to the "Volquartsen Guy" at the gun show and then fitted with a McMillen orange front sight. It's a laser. Never gonna let it go. He wants to swap his SS for the MKII I got because I knew he wanted one. I'm just trying to help a friend. He needs both. I hope y'all can understand.
*I agree with Ocassio Kortez. We need to stringently control all Mark Eleven firearms so we don't have no World War Twelve.

It is a kinda convoluted tale.
He has a stainless Single Six from ~30 years ago. Very gently used. A bit over a quarter of a century ago I got a MKII, had the Volquartsen guy at the gun show do his thing, got a McMillen(?) orange front blade. And the Ruger target grips. Yeah, I shoulda just got the slab side, bit I didn't know (pre-internet) that the slab side had the better trigger.
My Buddy has pined for a slab side, I spotted one on GB and bought it. Two reasons. Well, three. The price was good. They're just cool. I regret not getting it initially. And I know Bud is gonna want it. You see, I'm helping a friend. I know I'm gonna swap. His Single Six hasn't made any spectacular shots that I've seen, and he should have the joy of a pistol that's gone through eleven iterations,* but it's kinda hard to let go of. When he does come to his senses he can get his Single Six back at cost.
*An A.O.C.reference.

My dentist's first car was a Mustang. Many years later he went down the road of "I'd like to have another Mustang..." but he wanted HIS Mustang. Gosh be darned if he didn't find his exact original Mustang. How many "Man, I wish I hadn't..." tales are out there?

Yep. That's my plan. All of my deals are 100% reversible. But darn, now I want a slab side of my own.

I am fortunate to own both, My grandsons can decide who will get which one. they are never to be sold only passed on.

Well, even though the squirrel was ~50 yards away the stream was minimal. Twelve feet wide, knee deep. It was fall so it was cool (central Arkansas in October) but not anything that would warrant a canoe. It is a confusing post and that is my fault. We're gonna swap and I'm gonna convince him to get his Single Six back a bit later. His wife doesn't know that so don't tell her.

His wife doesn't know? Sounds like a BLACK OP to me. She doesn't read this forum? Does She? That would end that BLACK OP in a hurry. 🤔

Its Marshal Dillon vs aliens.
Marshal Dillon used a six shooter.
Aliens used a mk type pistol.
Do you want to be The Marshal or an alien?
We, us kids, were allowed to watch Marshal Dillon draw at the beginning of the show and then it was time to go to bed.
I don't recall the other guy ever getting hit.
Kinda like Wagon Train. They never got to where they were going.
But I digress. Single action revolver triggers tend to have better triggers than semi-autos.
We are Americans. We can have both.

The World War Eleven comment was actually Ilhan Omar but I can understand getting her and AOC mixed up since they're each dumber than the other one. 😁

This thread was a crypto twister......but to clear something up......please don't ever get ever AOC confused with Aviation Ordnance Chief.......dang the media and their titles....

I had to chuckle at blume's comment & memory.

Yep,, that .22 was NOT as accurate as it SHOULD have been. Boy,, did we all have egg on our faces that day! LOL,, the FUN we have at a Gathering!

I have made quite a few very good shots with both types of Rugers. I will admit that a MKII in the Competition Target model,, slab-side is a daily "working" gun. And it gets a lot of use. Heck,, I recently took out a groundhog that had decided to move in on my range. He made the mistake of NOT running when he saw me. He sat & watched me get to my truck,, AND allowed me the time to get the gun out & align the sights. Oops,, "Lights-out!"
Besides as a SA collector,, and especially a 3-screw lover,, I'd HATE to wear out one of my OM's by the daily carry & use. That stainless MKII is a workhorse.

Yup, those MKII's sure shoot well. They even disassemble in a heartbeat. Now about that reassembly 🤧
Guess some folks swear bye them, but about everyone that ever cleaned them after a range session with me usually swears at them!

Whenever you get the chance your more than welcome to school me. No one else has. 🤔

There used to be a guy here who invented a strut to make it easy to re assemble mk pistols. He would post in every thread he could squeeze it into.

Everyone finally told him off. Nobody here needs a gadget to assemble a MK pistol. It isn’t that hard. There are way worse guns to put together. I don’t know why the Ruger gained that reputation.
