Old>New P89DC

So, I have an old P89DC that has just sat in a box out in the garage for over a decade. Mechanically it is sound...just was pretty rough looking....

I DuraCoated a "Coach" SxS a few weeks ago & decided to give this pistol a try. Not the best job(I didn't completely disassemble it before resurfacing), but it looks 100% better & now joins me on trips to the range again....I just don't care for the 9mm round-never have. It will never be a go to gun, but the light recoil is good for introducing folks to shooting. Plus....I forgot how nice it is to legally have a high-capacity gun in Kali!

Hey, nice work. I see your P89DC has a laynard loop on the bottom. Mine doesn't have this feature and I'd like to have it. Any chance to get it as a sparepart and mount it on mine? Or is it a permanent part of the frame?

WoW...good eyes! I knew it was a horrible picture when I posted it, but the only one I had without going & digging it out & thought that was lost in the shadow! Thanks for the compliment, but sadly I can't answer your question, cuz I really don't know enough about it. It looked like an integral part with the spring resting on it & didn't take it off when I DuraCoated the pistol...but I may be wrong. I am sure someone on this forum is more knowledgeable in this area & can chime in & answer that for ya'! Good luck!

After you take the grips off you will see a little pin in the frame that goes thru this "plug" / Lanyard loop. Simply apply a little pressure to the plug and push the pin out. This releases the hammer spring parts. Take the new lanyard loop press it in and stick the pin back thru the frame.

Super easy.

I needed a couple small parts for my P89 and ordered what I found on shopruger but they did not show the sight lock-down screw. I included a note with my order and they sent one along free. I have had good experiences with Ruger customer service and suggest a phone call to them, likely they will just send you one.

Ruger sells a lot more parts for the P-guns than is listed on the shop ruger site. Call the factory and if you don't have a manual ask them to send you one. it is free and has exploded views with part numbers etc.

I just saw that you are out of the country. Not sure how that effects things. Good luck though.

I was out shooting this gun the other day & realized I never came back & posted on the results of my "shade-tree" gunsmithing. Well, after this attempt at refinishing, I went ahead & completely broke it down, blasted all the pieces, DuraCoated it again (same color scheme though) then put it all back together. It actually feels a little tighter due to the finishing forming tighter tolerances.

I have shot it several times since, not one problem....went bang every time I pulled the trigger. While I could not get super accurate results from it (may be me or the sights), but,it hits center mass every time I or anyone else has shot it. The DuraCoat seems to be holding up well, though I haven't really taken anywhere but from my safe to the range. Between the unique color scheme & the regular capacity magazines (mostly limited to 10 round here) I got several lookers trying to see what the hell I was shootin' :lol:

A new lease on an old gun that was collecting rust n' dust! I never cared too much for the 9mm round, but, for the range....I can't complain....hardly any recoil, quick target re-acquisition, & valu-packs at Walmart are priced fairly well!

You can down load a manual from the Ruger site.....

I won't comment on the finished finish.....
