I good eye caught my GI Joes in a pic on a different thread. I expect the request for pic may be coming so here it is. And a little more to the story. I was BIG GI Joe fan as kid. It may be partly because my big brother was a Marine at the time. (14 year spread) Any gift occasssion I asked for GI Joe Stuff and I had a bunch. The Jeep, the Space Capsule and more clothes and guns than you could count. I had a friend a year or two behind me that I played with. I can tell you these Joe's saw real combat. Firecrackers, bb guns you name it they saw action. Somewhere around 11-13 I'd had enough and gave EVERY piece I had to him. Time moved on, we lost touch around junior high. I had not seen Steve in 20+ years when one day he shows up at my church. we talk about all we did back then and the fun we had. The next week he shows up and gave me what is in the picture. All of it was mine except the one with "hair." I never had one of those. And I haven't seen him since. It's been another 20 now....

It's funny you showed the GI Joe. When I saw the title of this thread,, I immediately thought of my own GI Joe stuff, and the full cowboy outfit I had.

On a related note, my daughters are now age 40 and 38. At some point they asked our neighbor if they could sell all their Barbie stuff in her yard sale. They priced each piece at 5 cents. I visited the yard sale the night before and paid for everything they had. I boxed them up, hid them in a basement closet and gave them back to my daughters after each of them gave birth to a daughter.

My brothers and I had the Joes too, the jeep with the trailer and searchlight, footlocker and even the deep sea diver stuff. Also the "Best of The West" cowboy figures along with the horses, buckboards saddles, etc..

All the Joe stuff is gone, but I still have some of the cowboy stuff. :)

I have most of the Evel Knievel hand crank toys the big RV and all 4 explorer sets.

I recently found my bottle cap gun. Its a piece of wood with a clothes pin and a rubber band.

My nephew is a West Point grad and he and his wife recently had a baby boy. Thought this would be a nice gift for little Jack. Found a West Pt/ Annapolis set on Amazon and it’s $230! No thanks.

Older cousins had the big figure and the Jeep. I had the Evil Knievel crank/ramp bike. Then I later got the GIANT metal Jeep made by Tonka.

I have all my Star Wars stuff somewhere.

I had GI Joe's and many other things. I loved Johnny West figures. I had the whole family, Captain Maddox, Geronimo, many horses, etc. My mother was not sentimental at all. She threw them all away, without asking me.

Never had a GI Joe, but I had two Stonys, Marx's knockoff. If you really worked at it, you could get real GI Joe clothes on a Stony, and I did.

Stony's guns were more accurate/realistic than GI Joe's--M1 Garand, M1 carbine, BAR, and 1911. And Stony's hands could hold them better. Stony had an M3 Grease Gun too, which I don't believe Joe ever did.

You had the good ones. I came from the era of that bearded criminal looking GI Joe. The first thing we'd do when we got one of those was to get a razor blade out and shave that nasty, cheesy beard off in an attempt to turn him into a nice, clean cut , trustworthy "regular guy".

We WERE GI Joe, though not by that name. And my toys didn't survive.

I once told Nita about making a frontier cabin out of a wood cigar box. Gravel was used for the fireplace, tables etc. made from scrap wood. A piece of cloth for a rug.

Nita asked me what happened to that.

"It burned down. Indians." I told her.

"I figured as much," was her response.

I had a blond Army Joe. We had many adventures together as I grew up.
Joe's end came one cold Sunday afternoon on a frozen stock tank. He went out during an action that involved a German scout car, fireworks, a hole in the ice, and a pump-up pellet gun. It was a good day to die.

When GI JOE was introduced I was a SP5 on a Nike Hercules missile site (W44). I do have my set of 1937 Lionel trains though. I was 7 months old when I received them.

Heck wish I something to show like that Dick Tracy snub nose .38 that had a shiny silver finish like nickel. Shot plastic bullets from a spring loaded casing. Only other "toys" that survive are a Daisy pump model 25 and a Silvertone 6 transistor A.M. Gun still works though from 1962

My interest was toy trucks and 1/25 scale model cars. I had my cap guns and BB guns as well.

I still have mine. The ones I completed and were good enough to keep are on display next to my reloading bench. I have several in the attic in various stages of completion along with parts cars and some of the earlier sloppy work I did.

My dad still has his ca. 1955 metal John Deere toy tractor, hay baler, etc.

I used to have up close pics but they're likely lost on an old hosting site server that stole them...

Never had a "New" BB gun. Saved up money till I could buy a used one. I got a Daisey Red Rider. Was so worn out that you could see the BB leave the barrel. I would shoot the stubby beer bottles from my dud and it would bounce off. Still had a lot of fond memories with it. My dad passed last year and my mom the year before. Still going through the house that they lived in for 60 plus years. In the back corner of the garage wrapped up in plastic I found my old Red Rider.
Now it's in my shop.

I bought a NIB FANNER 50 a number of years ago and paid more than I have for real guns. Decided to sell it a few years ago and hate Ebay so I sold it otherwise. I got about half of what I originally paid! Oh Well!

I also picked up a Bat Masterson cane like I once had back in the late 50's! I still have that.

I still have my Hubley Rifleman cap rifle. My grandmother and grandfather bought it for my 8th birthday 62 years ago. It's not going anywhere. I was cool stuff when I had it back in the day!

I also have a Mattel VAC-U-FORM like I had back in the 1960's. It's pretty nice in the box and all! Sorry, no photo.

I also have my Daisey BB gun that my Dad bought for me from my cousin when I was 5! No photo either!

Great you held onto them. Heard worth money these days. At least our old stuff was often made of metal. I did have a Bat Masterson can that was cap firing I recall. think that big hoop lever I had was a Chuck Connors "Rifleman" edition.

Sadly I let mu O gauge trains go. But between my dad’s, mine and others gifted to me I have more rolling stock than I will ever use.

Seems like quite a few guys I know had dads into trains. They weren’t so they came my way.
