This past week I was able to spend a few hours going through this museum, to say it's awesome is the understatement of the year. I saw Ike's Winchester Model 21, TR's 500-450, the Duke's Colt 44-40 he carried in Hondo, Matthew Quigley's 45-110 Sharps. John Wesley Hardin's Colt Thunderer, for a viscous, sadistic killer the man had excellent taste in guns. Bass Reeve's 32-20 Colt SAA. There were more pre '64 Model 70's than I could shake a stick at. Several original paintings by my favorite artist, Phillip R. Goodwin were on display. It was kinda overwhelming the amount of stuff there.
Being a life long recurve shooter I loved the archery museum. They had Papa Bear's Borsalino hat, his boots, back pack, several bows, his broad head collection, there was gear owned by Pope an Young, Ben Pearson, a bow made by Geronimo. Trophies from around the world were everywhere you looked. If you ever close to Springfield, you need to put this on your list. I'd still be there if the little wife hadn't grabbed me by the ear and dragged me kicking and screaming like a 4 year old to the car. Sorry for the long post.

Yes it is an awesome museum, I've been several times and still don't feel like I've spent enough time there. My favorite part is Teddy Roosevelt's stuff.

It's a spectacular display, all right. When I was there last year, they had a fair selection of historical firearms on loan from the US Marshals' Service including three of Reeves' personal weapons. From the signage accompanying the Marshals' exhibit, I gather all of those guns will eventually find their way into the Marshals' own museum, once they finish building it.

And yes, I also enjoyed the TR and Hollywood collections.
